the character will have “a mystical bent and unique sense of humour”, and be “unapologetically nerdy about things that excite her…even if they might be terrifying to others”.
Marvel bosses are reportedly looking for trans actresses aged 18-22 who are Black, Latina or Afro-Latina.
The casting news comes as Marvel’s parent company, Disney, weathers criticism for its stance on Florida’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ law.
The funds raised by Grande will go to eighteen different organizations, such as the Black Trans Advocacy Coalition, Lucie’s Place and the Zebra Coalition. Grande will also be matching donations up to $1.5 million totaling up to $3 million.

Charlee Corra Disney, an heir to the Disney fortune, has come out as transgender and is speaking against Florida’s H.B. 1557, better known as the Don’t Say Gay law.
I wonder if this is a bit of an in joke. Alien producer Walter Hill co-wrote the second(?) version of the original Alien script. As I recall, he had a tendency to increase roles for women in his scripts by simply re-naming characters with women’s names without otherwise doing much re-writing of them.

I missed the one in ATL, which was held in Decatur, which seems… a bit pointless? Why have it in friendly territory rather than the capitol building downtown where people who are pushing these laws actually work?
I don’t know the area at all—but maybe the protest is more visible in Decatur than at the capitol building.
