Trump appoints himself leader of the Lockdown Rebellion by Tweeting LIBERATE VIRGINIA MICHIGAN MINNESOTA

Is it, though? They’ll only consider themselves bitten if they personally get sick and die. Their major concern at the moment is to lure as many supporters and disease deniers as possible into risky behavior, so that those folks will spend money.

They want the message that everyone is overreacting to spread, so making sure those canaries in a coalmine outside are as visible as possible will lure even more to follow in their wake. If those folks happen to die, the Pied Pipers in power will sit safe at home and send out thoughts and prayers to the survivors. Of course, they’ll have all manner of excuses why those folks died, just to keep the rest working and spending.

You’ll have to leave your guns in the US; there’s strict gun control in Canada. You will also have to put up with nationalized healthcare, though you can buy supplemental private insurance for dental, private hospital room and foreign travel insurance (for when you visit the US).

Only the stupid ones. The rest will attempt to look after their citizens - or at least their political careers.

This is very true. Of actual, eligible voters, only a bit less than 25% actually voted for the orange gibbon. Sadly, that number, along with the critical distribution of same, was enough to land us in this shitstorm. Let’s very much keep this in mind this fall as the inevitable “I would never vote for Biden” and “there is no difference between the two” memes get going. Biden would not be my first choice, but he would be be roughly 7.5 billion choices ahead of Trump.

One would think. But then one would remember just what Twitter is all about. Their attempts to enforce any kind of decency are lip service at best. No way would they shut down any of his tweets no matter what he says because he’s so engaging. The worse he is, the more money they make.

I totally agree with you, but would like to address the part about exploiting flaws.

I think that T**** is stupid and ignorant and has some form of mental illness. It’s not an act. He is genuinely incompetent with a pernicious streak and numerous other shortcomings. In short, he’s an asshole. A really enormous world-class asshole. He’s not consciously exploiting the flaws in the American psyche, that’s just the unintended consequence of his asshole behaviour.

Personally, I don’t really believe that T**** is owned by Putin. I expect Putin looks at the damage and discord and is as stunned as everyone else.

Likewise, I think the Republican Party are amazed and delighted at how far the boundaries of propriety have been pushed back, the further erosion of truth, the increase in societal division and that’s not to mention the financial rewards.

I suspect that the Republicans knew there would be chaos that could be exploited when they nominated him, they just didn’t foresee this level of success. T**** has demonstrated that a substantial portion of the population will buy into a really warped version of reality, even a reality that differs from day to day.

And T**** went on TV the other night and announced that his power was absolute. And there was no backlash of any consequence.

That’s food for though, no?

Before Trump was… installed… I felt a profound sense of the supremacy of politics. Holding duels between members of congress, fistfights during sessions… all of that was a step backwards.

And he has been so very active in stripping away any dignity that the office used to symbolize, that I’ve backslid in my belief in politics.

But now that he is pushing for the ugly, avoidable deaths of Americans, I think it’s pretty clear that his role as enemy of the constitution has overtaken his role as commander in chief.

I can imagine sheltering in place for 18 months, but I cannot imagine the country avoiding martial law for that long.

Certain carefully selected Minnesotans, maybe. Give us the Northwest Angle, then we’ll talk.

It’s only 40-ish percent of the eligible voters who bothered to vote. It ends up around 25% or less of the actual adult population of the country.

I imagine that the numbers hold true in the apathetic camps too, tho. I think it would be unwise to assume every non-voter is anti-trump. Apathy crosses all boundaries.

So we’re now at the “Trump advocates for armed rebellions against Democratic governors” phase of the presidency, huh?

Weird how he never got to that.

Of course, but at this point, even the Democrats are doing… exactly what his administration is suggesting they do. Yet he’s still calling for armed rebellion against them.

It’s part of his larger approach to this crisis - give the states all the responsibility (while claiming the “authority” for himself), so he can take all the credit and offload all the blame. What’s weird is he’s clearly adopting two contradictory positions at the same time in this case, selectively. (He’s been pushed into this because he has to adopt the positions of those who support him - or at least pretend to, publicly.)

Problem is: this isn’t like, say, drinking bleach. It doesn’t just impact them. It’s a contagious disease, so every one of these morons who get infected will infect others. (And hospitals get overloaded, and health-care providers get sick and people with unrelated ailments end up getting killed when they can’t get care.)

That’s just impeachment. And we saw how well that process (didn’t) work, so…

The lack of a process isn’t the problem here; the problem is the lack of representatives who actually represent us.

Twitter has pretty explicitly said that, when you’re president, they’ll let you do anything.

Honestly, I think the better question is: do we have one now? We’ll find out for sure over the next six or seven months.

Remember: being an asset isn’t the same as being an agent. One can be an unwitting asset.

Grazza, I am in the high risk group you keep reading about. I’m well into my 60s, I have coronary and pulmonary issues. If one of those clowns infects me I’m dead, and no amount of anyone willing to take civil responsibility for my death will bring me back.
And those clowns are everywhere, as you know. It’s why I’ve been more than hunkered down for over a month now.

If Twitter was owned and run by people who were moral or competent, they would have banned Trump long, long ago. The failure to do so has hurt the sanity of American politics, not to mention many Americans, grievously.

I looked up the term “stochastic terrorism” and found Trump’s tweets.

Also, I hadn’t heard about Cohen getting moved so I’m actually a bit surprised.
I wonder how many of the other white collar assholes that have been begging to be moved will have their wished granted.

Hell yes because we need the USA to be stable. They have most of the nukes for a start and they constitute a large part of the world economy.

Having said they I think they have been relatively sane and quiet so far. The die-off is pretty bad there and I expected far worse by way of internal strife than a few demonstrations.

To be clear, I was joking, albeit in poor taste.

Both my wife and I have parents in our 80s who we are doing everything that we can to look after.

These clowns don’t seem to even be able to look after themselves and sadly, due to US gun laws in some states, can try to make their case whilst armed.

We have idiots here too but not protests, for now…

Hahahahahahaha!!!

I kind of think it would be a mistake to believe that anyone in that photo would – upon seeing themselves in it – experience shame or revulsion.
