And yet, all the swing state polls have him in a statistical tie with Kamala. How is this possible?
I have seen a couple of theories on this.
One says that the MAGAverse is actively telling supporters, especially in these states, to respond to pollsters so as to tip the scales (as pollsters cannot account for people who refuse to answer questions to begin with) with an eye toward creating chaos (again) when Trump loses (again).
The other is that polling no longer accounts for how people actually communicate (I mean, when was the last time you actually answered the phone?) and so is increasingly divorced from reality.
I’m hoping that this isn’t a case of “people are just plain stupid.” But at the same time, as scary as this is, I also hope that these polls showing a tight race will light a fire under people’s butts and motivate them to actually vote. The polling in 2016 may very well have convinced some people that there was no need.
Also, many of the polls are being rather selective in who they sample. Much easier to get a trump win if you ask older republicans who voted for him last time…
It’s hard to tell if it’s his rotten answers or his personal stench that is causing those reactions in the studio. I’ll just assume both.
Racism and misogyny?
I think, from his perspective, this might be the one true thing he said in that answer. When he thinks about J6, he remembers feeling love, because all of those people were willing to overthrow our nation’s government for him. What an incredible amount of narcissistic supply that must have been.
Looks like Trump and his campaign got the wrong idea about Univision audiences. There is loony humor — and just plain dangerously loony.
The polls are shit (and what @BakerB said) and plenty of people are not paying attention to this stuff, and just assume anything like this is hyperbolic.
And that…
“Polls are a sedative, designed to encourage folks to sleep through election day.”

So, on this Univision appearance, it was really interesting to see how he was treated.
Kamala was on October 10th. We watch 3-4 hours of prime time Univision a night. There was zero advertising.
Trump was on last night. There was a week of constant commercials about it.
Univision is Sinclair owned, and the moderator very sympathetic to him.
I was happy they stopped using the “broadcaster cool” voice as his translated voice, as it was just a polished performance each time, and the guy never translated his rambling as rambling…instead turning it into an actual thought. Last night’s guy translated most of the rambles. I laughed a good bit when he started talking about his beautiful chair and the translator just went “ah, hell with it” and did word for word.
In my Hispanic family, we have 95% going Harris and 5% going Trump. The Trump votes are by guys who lost their jobs this year as their companies closed. They said they worked plenty under Trump and Biden is to blame. Both parts of that are false - both of them had huge periods of furlough and of course Biden doesn’t have a “fire laborers” button on his desk. One of them, the one in a union, never missed a day of pay, had offers to get education (he declined) and the union found him a new job paying the same. He suffered absolutely zero, but if you hear him talk, he barely made it.
Why did he call Ashli Babbit a nobody? That’s horribly rude. Even the woman in the audience was like “WTAF” about that.
Just like chess, Musk hates it because he can’t just make up space lasers to win!
I just want clarification here, did the translator actually say “ah, hell with it” in Spanish before going word for word? Or was that just inferred because of how he suddenly gave up trying to summarize the babble?
I’m assuming the latter but also can’t rule out the former occuring lol.

Trying to turn his incomprehensible word salad into something that makes sense is always gonna be a lost cause. It assumes a rational thought was in paly, and there seems to be none of that in his case. This is sanewashing, and it’s not a very good idea. I usually interpret this gamish as “the hamster in his brain changed directions and he went with it.” As reasonable as any other interpretation, but the best option I think, is to just let his insane ramblings stand as he spews them and see the degraded state of his mentality exposed.
Nevermind, I’ll delete my comment. I’m not interested in sanewashing, I’m interested in how people use language.
I understand that, but the stakes are too high to make this an intellectual exercise, however genuinely interesting the use of language might be to Happy Mutants.
