D’OH, I knew that, I’ll fix the post. The various flavors and sects of Judaism/Xianity/Islam are pretty hard to keep track of from the outside, but I do try.
I worked for years with a guy named Peter Norton, no relation. At the start of every meeting with anyone remotely technical, he had to explain… (Coincidentally, Pete was Jewish, although he looked very stereotypically Anglo.)
this isn’t about my feelings or yours. Is it? That would be awful privileged of us!
I wouldn’t have figured out the first one, but damn, that second one would have been hard to miss! Definitely never saw that before.
Yeah, the first one’s not obviously anti-semitic, though the context I saw it in was an article entitled George Soros: The Jew Behind The Democratic Party which made it more explicit. If you see someone being vilified for their corruption due to their wealth with piles of money involved, it’s worth considering if the story’s being told to two audiences as with Trump’s anti-Semitic image here:
Hmm. OK.
Before you take this angle much further, why not look into some history. Start with some speeches made by a certain German to his countrymen back in the 1930s. See or hear anything…uh…resonant with the message and techniques of the ad in question?
You don’t have to report back in here. Just think about it.
Please.
Or start even earlier.
We have a right-wing group that’s already primed to hate on Jews, being preemptively blamed for a loss in a campaign that the right-wing leader has repeatedly stated that he believes to be rigged–and this ad is pointing at who they will believe did the rigging.
This! So much this.
The flames have been fanned and there is gonna be a fire after the Trump loss. I am just at a loss as whether it will be just a backyard suburban leaf burn or a full on call out 3 stations fire.
Onomatopoeia?
Oh for fuck’s sake. The only thing Trump voters are “suffering” is a sense of threat to their self-image of unearned racial superiority. They’re just the usual racist scumbags and shitweasels who like to get their hate on.
I have it on good authority that troopers are always stoned.
What if they are already coming after you with torches and pitchforks, when you are just minding your own business?
No amount of suffering justifies that hate.
Case in point: Rod Dreher went all spittle-spraying apoplectic about Soros funding pro-democracy groups in Macedonia
with the clear intention of undermining Macedonian values and institutions
(Dreher is an Orthodox convert whose ideas of “Macedonian values and institutions” start and end with “theocracy”).
Unfair! He is merely a “rootless cosmopolitan”.
Simple answer:cover yourself in prawn extract.
Yeats:
Hurrah for revolution and more cannon-shot!
A beggar on horseback lashes a beggar on foot.
Hurrah for revolution, and cannon come again!
The beggars have changed places, but the lash goes on.
…but what Yeats wrote in regard to the (thoroughly stupid and with no moral difference between the sides) Irish civil war, and the situation in the US now, are different beasts. Obama has been an ineffectual president because he has had an impossible job. Clinton will be a relatively ineffectual president because of all the Americans who are turkeys voting for traditional Thanksgiving. But Trump will unlock very dark forces. Anyone who doubts it just has to look at the UK, where the Trump equivalent, Nigel Farage, is now inciting mob violence and threatening the Supreme Court - and he doesn’t even have an official political job. Win or lose, Trump could be a disaster for democracy. Russians made a decision some time ago to replace one corrupt power structure (Yeltsin) with another (Putin.) Yeltsin wanted to hand the entire country over to unregulated capitalism, which literally meant babushkas starving in the streets. Putin wants stability. The corruption is undoubted but the outcomes are different.
So, is it your actual position that any criticism of Goldman-Sachs, or “the establishment”, is anti-Jewish? Surely you can find plenty of repugnant things that Trump has actually said, without having to make stuff up.
I would say that most of us are wary of Goldman-Sachs. Many people have written of the company as a “giant vampire squid”. When you take the position that any criticism of a particular person or company is some sort of hate crime, it is an attempt to suppress discourse.
No one said that.
Primarily Yeltsin wanted no-one to interfere with his access to vodka.
"Trump closes out campaign with inspiring, poignant message of hate for the Jews"
I watched it twice, just to see if I missed the hate message. I expected something like “Der Giftpilz”. What I saw instead, was a criticism of Global banking interests, with Blankfein featured prominently. I don’t think anyone cares about his religion, instead they focus on the fact that his company is, in the words of the Senate investigation committee (led by Carl Levin), a “financial snake pit rife with greed, conflicts of interest, and wrongdoing.”
