It takes hard work, every day.
It’s hard not to be an asshole, especially when it’s so easy, and some of us are so very good at it… and I say that from extensive personal experience.
Thanks, it’s one of mine.

I am a laid back mellow type and these days I find it hard not to rage out at people.
Your GIFing gets a gold medal in my book.
You are aware that revolt is how the colonies won their independence from Britain, right?
Furthermore, I would posit that if things devolve to the point that force is necessary to right the wrongs, you’re living in a democracy in name only.
My ancestors loved Hadrian’s Wall. It supplied them with building material that was easy to expropriate. It didn’t stop them from crossing the border though, which is why they were called the Borderers.
I’m gonna say it again.
‘Serious choices that need to be made’ doesn’t necessarily entail the use of violence:
Violence should be our last recourse to effect real societal change, and I’d like to hope that it doesn’t have to come to that. But if it does, that’s a reality we must be prepared to deal with, and each make our respective ‘stand.’
I’m even thinking that sabotage is a serious choice, seeing that there are contractors who are salivating over the project, with no humanitarian concern whatsoever. If it gets to that point, I don’t mind taking some tools to it.
ETA: And I’m talking about a Trumpish nightmare of a wall, similar to the Berlin Wall, not just border control targeting the worst coyotes.
Calls for action that go “beyond the ballot box” encompass a LOT of options beyond violence and assassination.
General strikes, mass protests, boycotts, write-in campaigns, civil disobedience, creating public pressure for impeachment, running for local office, personally lobbying elected officials at every level of government, the list goes on.
If the only means you can think of for bringing about change are “the ballot or the bullet” then you need to stretch your imagination a bit more.
Yes, it totally is.
There are all sorts of ways to defy and resist that don’t involve violence.
They are ‘serious choices’ because actions have consequences… and yet some of us are willing to take the risk.
Yeah, and if King George wasn’t literally mad with yes-king Tories in Parliament, it very well could have been where independence was never acted upon. It was not a unanimous decision by any means.
And in this case we have an established democracy with less drastic means available, vs a government system with no direct representation and an executive branch appointed by God.
I think we would at the least have to exhaust those options before democracy can be called “failed” and other options explored.
You’re right, but also,
is getting closer and closer to an accurate description of our current government.
The Madness of King Donald I.
He don’t care how, he wants it now!
I actually prefer fingernails on a chalkboard.
Wait - there are people Trump respects? When did that happen?
Did I mention that I have a background in civil/structural engineering and do pro bono consulting?
I mean, according to Chris Christie, so… grain of salt and all. We know there’s at least one person he respects. Or maybe 1.2 if you count his daughter’s ass.
I’ve heard he’ll pay up to $130k for pro-bono consulting.
