Obviously, when L’etat, C’est Moi, any attack on Moi is an attack on the state.
There might be some explanation in a story linked in a comment above.
Fox’s Tucker Carlson interviewed Ami Horowitz, a journalist who said that “from the onset of the refugee crisis, there was a surge in [Swedish] gun violence and rape.” Slate’s Daniel Politi theorizes that Trump watched the segment and hence decided to say something about Sweden in his subsequent speech…
The problem, though, is that this “rape epidemic” is as fake as the Bowling Green massacre.
Canadian reporter Doug Saunders rigorously investigated the narrative, and concluded that it “falls apart as soon as you speak to anyone knowledgeable in Sweden.”
So basically the explanation is that Trump’s recipe for public statements is a pinch of information, but only from select sources, and a large heap of confirmation bias.
I better look out. The next thing he’ll be tweeting about the rampant crime in Belgium. Why, just this morning, my Iraqi immigrant neighbor jaywalked across the street right in front of our house! And with all his offspring too!
And the worst part is the other side of the street was Luxembourg!
It is?!?! Then it’s an international incident! And I thought it was just because that’s where the good cafe is, and the road to school!
Here’s something interesting: prior to 45, FoxNews had a presidential and congressional approval poll at the bottom of their “Politics” landing page. It is no longer there. Anyone else remember this?
Yes, but as I recall, it hasn’t been updated in a year or more.
Hmm…I remember it being updated during Obama, and now it isn’t there at all…
The cynic in me says they didn’t like the way it was moving up and now they’re even less happy about the way it’s moving down.
Russians have been fighting Muslims way longer, and more coherently, than the US. Part of what surprised them in Syria was how you guys were prepared to back IS rather than cooperate with them.
If you notice that the US is officially Islamophobic and dedicated to killing Muslims around the world you got to notice the Russians are worse. Just have their fingers in fewer pies.
I mean, people say “unshakeable” but they aren’t really unshakeable. If he wanted to have 5% support tomorrow, he could easily do that, it would just take something really, really above and beyond (order a nuclear launch on a solidly red state?).
People who support Trump still have values and limits, they just don’t align with ours. Most people take a while to do a U-turn. We don’t know what the future will bring, but the path he is laying will land him with like 15-20% support by mid-terms. The GOP will have to impeach him to try to avoid losing the senate.
