You’re thinking “Trump”. It’s Barr who has co-opted the DEA and the Justice Department for enforcement purposes well beyond their mandate. McConnell has spent years stacking the senior offices of Homeland Security. I guarantee that the hiring of the “Black Ops security” hanging around the protests started in Trump’s inner circle. Trump hasn’t planned anything other than ordering “Give me my own Tiananmen Square, so I can look strong.” (Read his long history of admiration for China’s crackdown.) Trump’s allies have assembled their own army because the actual military is unlikely to make moves that are so blatantly political.

I don’t have a citation for this, but I don’t believe that the secret service thinks the same way that you or I do. They’re willing to sacrifice themselves to protect the office of the president, regardless of who holds that office.

The first is asking for clarification of a statement presented as fact.

IMO “Citations needed” with no clarifying argument is a trash statement for folks who can’t take opinion and want to sound internet smart with no effort. It’s kind of sad. It’s cheap because there is no rebuttal, no thought, just a reactive empty statement.

I haven’t, and I bet the people around Trump haven’t. They’re hoping they can intimidate the protests into stopping, ignoring that it was intimidation and brutality that started them.
This is why it is important to let people in the military know they aren’t required to follow illegal orders. We won’t get through to them all, but if we get through to enough then the military start having chain of command problems.

Alternately, it can be viewed as a reminder that just because something is passionately believed to be true, that doesn,t make it so.
And, as a bonus, it requires exactly as much effort as some opinions deserve.
Edit: because apparently some folks can’t tell the difference between the personal and impersonal ‘you’. Or they have a guilty conscience.

At some point our elected representatives are kept so far apart from us that they no longer represent us.
If the world is so dangerous that it is unsafe for a leader to walk among the people, then ask how the world got this way and what the leaders are going to do to fix it.
