Trump felt he served in the military, however he did not

Pretty much unavoidable.

Sadly, yes.

I spent half of my 6th grade year in a military academy in the Virginia mountains. I can tell you from experience that Trump has it dead wrong. I was beaten weekly if not daily, served swill, forced to march for hours in extremes of heat and cold, required to polish my brass, shoes, and boots for hours every day, did a crappy job of studying and got good grades regardless, and was required to do push ups, run laps, and miss meals due to any perverse whim of my commanding officers (pretty much everyone else). It was PRISON.

But like “dubya” in the national guard, Trump had connections…

Edit: I left out an important detail. By the time I left, every toilet and bathroom sink in that entire facility was polished spotless, too. But really, I’m doing well.

On the other hand, you didn’t watch your friends die in combat.

I stand corrected…?

I don’t mean to pick on your dreadful experience of “military” schooling, but it seems to me that when Trump compares his schooling to, how shall I put this …serving ones country…, he seems to miss the whole point of why military service is valued or, to be completely cynical-- fetishized. The prospect of death. All of the symbolism, none of the reality.

Aren’t a lot of spacefaring groups of fighting ships called “navies”? If so, wouldn’t it make sense to have a boatswain with a pipe?

I mean… Not exactly a flute… But hey after you harpoon a few 4-dimensional space whales, you could scrimshaw up a few piccolos.

32 INT. ENTERPRISE DOCKING BAY 32

A reception group awaits, led by Captain Spock. Saavik
stands at his side, in company of the Trainee crew.
Also present: CHIEF ENGINEER MR. SCOTT and members of
his staff in their distinctive uniforms.

                                       INTERCOM VOICE
                         Docking procedure complete.

                                       SPOCK
                         Prepare for Admiral's inspection.

               The group comes to attention.

                                       SPOCK
                                 (continuing)
                         Open the Air Lock.

The doors open. Kirk and his staff are piped aboard
by an electronic version of the boatswain's tradi-
tional whistle. Kirk salutes the Federation symbol
and steps forward to exchange salutes with Spock.

                                       KIRK
                         Permission to come aboard, Captain?

                                       SPOCK
                         Welcome aboard, Admiral. I believe
you know my trainee crew. Certainly
they have come to know you.

                                       KIRK
                                 (dryly to Saavik)
Yes, we've been through death and
                         life together.

Saavik stiffens slightly -- humor is not her forte.

                                       KIRK
                                 (continuing to Scotty)
Mr. Scott, you old space dog. You're
                         well?

                                       SCOTTY
I had me a wee bout -- but Dr. McCoy
                         pulled me through.

                                       KIRK
Oh? A wee bout of what, Mr. Scott?

Uncomfortable, Scotty exchanges a glance with Bones --

                                       BONES
                         Shore leave, Admiral.

                                       KIRK
                         Ah.

I really don’t understand why America has such a starry-eyed worship for their armed forces, although being an empire who seems to go into withdrawal when they’re not bombing some small country of darker skinned people, I guess it makes sense…
