Trump just fired FBI director James Comey

You forgot about the women, although some of us do fall into the categories you listed.

If you listen to the things Trump says with the Evangelicals’ favorite prophesies about the end of the world in hand, then you have to conclude that Donald Trump is the Anti-Christ. After all, just listen to Trump; “Only I can save you.”

OK already.

I’ll take Pence.

Yabbut, Nixon’s FBI Director was J. Edgar Hoover, who had all the dirts on all the peoples. No one could fire him.

I’m counting on the Republican Party to eventually realize they’re losing more face having Trump in charge than they’d lose via impeaching him. Pence is a monster, but a monster we know and understand, and I feel like most of his plans are already being enacted by Trump anyway.

There has only ever been one organization with enough power to prosecute Trump: the United States Congress.

Specifically (assuming the Democrats have any spine, lol) it requires 25 Republican Representatives and 18 Republican Senators to agree that Trump is unfit to serve as President.

They don’t, of course, need any more evidence than they already have.

Nope. Other than a pardon from Pence, that is. So in practice, yes.

Here’s a segment of the AG’s letter Sessions refers to in his letter to Trump, I’ve seen it passed around a bit.

What did Nixon say to Gerald Ford as he left the White House?

“Pardon me.”

I laughed at this bit.

Jokes on Trump. Now he has time to finally buy that food truck, move to New York, and sell “Coney Island Comey Dogs”

Sorry for continuing to post, but this is also very funny, the second clip starts with the best video clip:

“I’d like to introduce my pick for director of the FBI. He’s gunna do a fantastic job. Fantastic.”

And that assumes that all charges are Federal. If crimes were committed and prosecuted in NY, for example, only the governor could pardon him.

That’s my understanding. Hopefully someone will correct me if I’m mistaken.

I dunno about you, but this whole sitch is starting to drive me bananas!

I suppose civil charges would be better than nothing but the idea of him doing time in a for profit prison has some appeal

I’d like that, and for his entire financial empire to be drained dry.

Whoever Trump replaces Comey with will be worse, but let’s not pretend Comey’s not sleeping in a bed he made. He was childish and incompetent and instead of trying to do anything meaningful or beneficial he tried to play both sides towards his own advantage. And he did a terrible job of it. I’m confident that Trump will promote an idiot lackey who hates the US citizenry, but Comey wasn’t the good guy here, or the victim of anything besides his own clumsy, self centered behavior. It’s good that he’s gone.

This is pretty much my take on it too. Yes, this is very likely the Fanta Menace trying to get out ahead of any Russia investigation bombshells that might be coming out of the FBI soon, but Comey has also done enough flagrantly stupid shit in public over the last year to warrant no longer being in charge of the bureau IMO. In a normal political universe, it’s not necessarily fucked up that an administration would fire him, but it is fucked up that they can use his own behavior as justifiable cover to install a yes-man in his place who can apply downward pressure on investigators looking into 45’s misdeeds.

Oh, for fuck’s sake.

Lol, this is what happens when you think you’re helping someone who likes to play the psychopath, and then it turns out he really is unhinged. Plenty of people had similar (and occasionally more truculent) experiences after helping a dictator-to-be.

If you are thinking about Pence, forget it - Republicans won’t ever impeach Trump, it would mean admitting they got played. After all, what they really care about is certain stuff being signed into law, which it is. The POTUS acting as lightning rod, when enough people eventually find out that they were screwed, is actually a bonus.
