- Fascist societies rhetorically cast their enemies as “at the same time too strong and too weak”. On the one hand, fascists play up the power of certain disfavored elites to encourage in their followers a sense of grievance and humiliation. On the other hand, fascist leaders point to the decadence of those elites as proof of their ultimate feebleness in the face of an overwhelming popular will.
Except it really isn’t.
Adderall and methamphetamine (what you’d typically call speed) aren’t the same chemical compound. Yes, they are related and are both in the amphetamine family hence the -amphetamine suffix. But they aren’t the same drug and when administered in a medical setting, they treat different things.
Also keep in mind if you buy “speed” off the street, you really have no idea what you’re getting. You’re almost certainly not getting pharmacy-grade methamphetamine (sold under the brand name Desoxyn). If you’ve ever seen Breaking Bad, the impure chemical composition of street-grade meth was a critical plot point.
It’s such a weird play. You have many Republicans setting the bar so low for Biden that he’ll will be considered a winner if he can make it to the podium without breaking a hip or drooling all over himself. At the same time Trump is trying to lower the bar for himself by insinuating that he will lose because Biden will be doping to win. Never mind that nobody’s talking about the substance of the debate arguments which is how they should be won or lost.
Also never mind that stimulants don’t actualy make you any smarter, so if Biden were on some sort of stimulant he may have faster recall but wouldn’t suddenly gain any new superpowers.

Yeah, this is the part I’ve found the weirdest. If there are drugs that can let demented people make it through a State of the Union appearing non-demented, that’s big news, isn’t it?
