In fact, it seems kind of useful to it. The vast majority of Americans have no interest in their empire, because they don’t consider it as such. So for instance news stories about whatever is happening in Syria and Yemen just kind of get ignored as the way the Middle East has always been, instead of conflicts their country is very much behind. Some of those that prefer that simplified narrative oftentimes can’t be bothered about complicated issues. Maybe those issues are beyond their ken… maybe they just can’t be bothered about things that don’t involve trying to scratch out a living in this economy.
For many, if it ain’t on t.v., it didn’t happen… and in this sense, the Media are a factor in the ‘dumbing down’ of the population.
those are people who are privileged and don’t have to fret about “complications” like the lives of others.
