He’s an insufferable lying asshole.
ikr?
First clue: He worked for Fox.
Tuck vs the rest of on-air Fox taxidermy - classic distinction without a difference?
The story here is that he was an insufferable asshole even by the standards of people who worked for Fox News. That’s like getting kicked out of the Klan for being too racist.
Imagined Fox News job interview —
Interviewer: What do you consider to be your greatest flaw?
Applicant: Most people think I’m a dickhead.
Interviewer: We here at Fox News are not “most people”. You’re hired.
Christ, what an especially awful asshole.
He’s getting closer to his ideal employer by working for Putin. He’s definitely a Russian state TV kind of arsehole.
The thing is, he was an insufferable lying asshole from the time he was hired, so I don’t buy that that’s why he was fired. I mean, sure, that is going to get old after awhile, even if you knew what you were getting into when you hired him, but still, there had to have been something that suddenly made it not worth it to put up with this particular insufferable lying asshole. And that would almost certainly be the lawsuit that cost Fox a shitload of money.
Carlson might not have changed; it could be Fox. He was hired by Roger Aisles, who’s gone. His fellow misogynistic frat boys Bill O’Reilly and Glen Beck were ejected. Tuckhead might not have read the room as the environment around him (while still toxic) changed.
Maybe, but it’s not like those changes happened right before he got fired. The lawsuit settlement did happen right before he got fired. I have a hard time believing that wasn’t a factor.
Still, he was fired.
Lachlan protected him, even when the advertisers left and turned his cesspit show into a loss leader. It took a critical mass of Faux staffers complaining and threatening lawsuits for the Murdochs to realise he wasn’t worth it.
… as it had when Glenn Beck left and when Bill O’Reilly left — these guys were never stars on their own merits, they were just the dudes Fox happened to be promoting at the time
They’ll have us babbling about the star power of Jesse Watters or Greg Gutfeld soon enough
If Carlson had such big star power he could get a better job after Fox than being on Xitter
But while we’re on the topic of incredibly insufferable assholes, if that’s why Carlson was let go, why is Jesse Watters still working there? Is he just a better trained asshole who will heel on command? Is it that Fox News wanted an insufferable asshole who can be trained not to use the C word?
Either way, the fact that he is such an insufferable asshole even by Fox News standards is probably why no one at the network put up any kind of fight to keep him around.
The workplace sexual harassment lawsuits have piled up at Faux over the years, the greedy bastards that own it are probably tired of paying out large settlements, and possibly are trying a smidge harder to not intentionally hire losing-lawsuit magnets.
Knock on wood, Tucker will follow a similar path where he is still out there, but no where as near influential.
Maybe if Newsmax or OAN picked him up he could reach more people again, but as it is, trying to do the same thing on Twitter or where ever that you did on a nightly cable news show just doesn’t have the same reach.
