Tucker Carlson was fired by Rupert Murdoch

It would be a tonal shift, for sure.

Doocy is like a malicious golden retriever—he desperately wants to do evil, but doesn’t quite know how to pull it off.

Carlson, on the other hand, is a straight-up misogynist, racist hellhound.

… he’d be the weird uncle at the Daily Wire

I don’t know if Carlson wants to subordinate himself to a younger cohort of assholes—it’s not like the Daily Wire could pay him very much, or like he really needs the money anyway

Yeah, this guy was the lead role for $35,000,000 a year on the biggest “news” channel on the planet. He’s not going to go somewhere where he’s going to be second at anything, to anyone, and he’s not going to accept a significantly lowered compensation

… oh they’re definitely “pro-growth,” but only in the economic sense—more cars and TV’s every year, but never any changes that might mean we didn’t need so many cars and TV’s anymore

They’re for growth but against progress :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Maybe. Given the years at that high rate, plus his shitty frozen food fortune, a big celery may not matter much to him by now.

bad joke in there, I know

So one thing I didn’t know about that whole fast food fortune thing… is that his mom was definitely an heiress, but almost none of the money got to her because the Swanson family refused to give any of it to women, instead putting it into trusts all managed by the men in the family. Tucker’s mother had to sue to get an allowance, which was undisclosed and stopped at her death. It’s unclear how much that was, or if Tucker saw any of it, but I don’t think he’s as rich as people think he is from the Swanson family.

EDIT:

She also apparently disinherited Tucker, left the family when he was six, and so it’s likely none of the money got to him, ever.

EDIT 2; I realize I got his mother confused with who his father remarried. The part about Patricia Swanson being left out of the trust was true, however. Much of Tucker’s familial wealth came from his father, who was an investment banker, the CEO of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and a few other high paying roles before trying a chance at a mayoral run.

Surely at some point his papa also had an emerald mine.

… it’s just the same six assholes running everything after all, isn’t it

Maybe why he has gone dark since being sh*t canned.

I wonder if the reverse is true as well.

The file includes internal complaints regarding workplace conduct, disparaging comments about management and colleagues, and allegations that the now-former primetime host created a toxic work environment

I fail to see how this would stop him, isn’t that all pretty much in the open, even if the exact details aren’t?

And that’s not even the Swanson heiress, who adopted him and his brother…

But his wealth clearly comes from his father anyway. He is plenty wealthy and privileged (talking Swiss boarding school kind of wealth) without him having seen a thin dime from the Swanson fortune…

But, as you know, it’s not remotely important either, as whether he came from wealth is beside the point, when he’s a fucking fascist who has popularized white supremacist conspiracy theories… He’s trading in ideas that lead to mass violence against vulnerable groups, and camps if he can help get other fascists into power…

He had relatively vast wealth from multiple sources. And just because he wasn’t in the inheritance from his birth mother doesn’t mean he didn’t receive support from her - or other members of her family- over his entire lifetime.

A good reminder that class and wealth operate in multiple ways… not just about money, but about access and connections, too.

And Tucker’s family wasn’t just wealthy from frozen foods. The other side of her family- his grands:

“Her mother, Mary Nickel James, was a cattle baron heiress whose ancestors owned 3 million acres of ranch land across four states.”

But yeah, let’s rein in the baseless assumptions that Carlson came from wealth and privilege! /s

Partially explains all the bullshit.

(excerpts)
The day before Dominion Voting System’s defamation trial against Fox News was set to begin in a Delaware courthouse, the Fox board of directors and top executives made a startling discovery that helped lead to the breaking point between the network and Tucker Carlson, one of its top stars.

Private messages sent by Mr. Carlson that had been redacted in legal filings showed him making highly offensive and crude remarks that went beyond the inflammatory, often racist comments of his prime-time show and anything disclosed in the lead-up to the trial.

The discovery added pressure on the Fox leadership as it sought to find a way to avoid a trial where Mr. Carlson — not to mention so many others at the network — would be questioned about the contents of the private messages they exchanged in the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election.

Two days after the board’s discovery, Fox settled that case for $787.5 million, believed to be the highest for a defamation trial.

In the end, according to one of the people with knowledge of the internal discussions, Lachlan Murdoch viewed forcing out Mr. Carlson as a “business decision,” just as he did the Dominion settlement.

By the time the board did see the redacted material, Lachlan Murdoch was already moving to find an out-of-court accommodation with Dominion, having given his negotiators the go-ahead to increase Fox’s offer to the company, according to one of the people briefed on the discussions.

The settlement of the Dominion case, however, has not ended the threat posed by the messages. The New York Times, The Associated Press and National Public Radio have challenged the redactions, meaning they could still become public.
