Well I had resolved that, if Scotland had voted for Independence in 2014, I’d have joined the London Independence Party the next day. Not because I want London to be independent, but because London has done so much damage to the UK. (And I say that as someone who considers themselves a Londoner.)

Anyway, the good news is that Rishi Sunak is now merely the second shortest-serving PM in British history. Which means he isn’t even interesting on that front any more, although he’s still got another couple of months before he can feel really safe.
I’m still betting on an election in Autumn 2023. Inflation will have returned to normal by then, and he’ll have the space to promise tax cuts, so the “shy Tories” (who are currently pretending to be ‘don’t knows’ in the opinion polls) are even less likely to defect to Starmer’s ‘slightly duller version of Cameron’s Tory party’ come an election.
The Tories still can’t possibly win, but I can see them getting up to 250 seats on that basis (especially with a luke-warm press) which would likely make the electoral calculus incredibly awkward for everyone.
