How about if I’m permanently injured due to a sports injury? (I am.)

It is a good thing I am a white collar engineer, my wife and I discussed, with a forgiving workplace. I’ve been injured for 2 1/2 years, had spinal surgery 11 months ago, and am a lot better but if I was a blue collar tradesmen or someone doing physical things (like a cop or a firearm or a longshoreman), I’d be permanently out of work.

Well - there are people who really need help, and there are people who DO cheat and abuse the system.

Personally, while I am in chronic pain and limp, I CAN be half-way productive and contribute something to my employer. I think I would also be happier working than sitting at home, even if the money was the same (which it wouldn’t be - unless I got disability and worked under the table). But I am also aware, according to my Drs, that I could quality if I went after it.

I do think I am getting one of those handicap cards though. Use it for the rough days.

There are a lot more people who need help then the small percentage of people who cheat the system.

If you’re looking for where it’s a large percentage of people who cheat the system, you need to look at the financial industry instead.
