Verdict reached in Derek Chauvin's trial: 2nd degree murder guilty, 3rd degree murder, manslaughter guilty

do we really have to link to shit-papers like the washington times?

Throughout its history, The Washington Times has been known for its conservative political stance,[6][7][8][9] supporting the policies of Republican presidents Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, George W. Bush, and Donald Trump.[10][11] It has published many columns which reject the scientific consensus on climate change,[12][13][14] on ozone depletion,[15] and on the harmful effects of second-hand smoke.[16][17] It has drawn controversy by publishing racist content including conspiracy theories about U.S. President Barack Obama[18][19] and by supporting neo-Confederate historical revisionism. [20][21]

as an alternative (jaja, all media is shit anyway these days)

Wait, what? But I’m a cop.

Not any more, dude.

(I was going to add “Welcome to the other side”, but I’m not really sure this should be considered switching sides in his case.)

Fuck that. The right LITERALLY TRIED TO OVER THROW THE GOVERNMENT on January 6th. They don’t get to pretend like what she said was “over the line” when far too many Republicans voted against certifying the election, even though there was a mob coming for them.

I am really sick of their hypocrisy.

We can’t all just sit around and meekly ask for equal rights from the power structure. That’s not how it works. That just doesn’t work and never has. The way to get equal rights to get out on the street and protest. They are well aware what Waters’ meant, and that it’s not kill the jury if they vote “wrong”…

My intent on the comment was to state that when it seems like things may just go your way in some sort of unusual break with historic precedent, that that may be the time to indeed be quiet and watch what happens. Given the evidence presented, it seemed like this may be the time where a cop finally gets convicted. Doing anything that could get that reversed is too big of a risk.

If (like usual) he was found not guilty, then by all means call for blood on every street corner. If it looks like you may just “win” (yeah, tough calling any win in this situation, but you get my point), that may be the point to adopt some tactics and play the cards really close to your chest.

Hopefully she didn’t fuel any sort of meaningful appeal, but we’ll have to see on that one.

My take was that when the other side routinely shoots at you, maybe don’t give them any ammo.

Right now, everyone – but particularly people of color – need to do everything they can to avoid any contact with the police, 'cause those fuckers are going to be looking for any excuse to riot.

It was a low bar, but we managed to trip over it. Good job, y’all. Now it’s time to actually solve the real problem.

It was agonizing as the verdicts were being read out: Clutching onto hope, while suspended over an abyss of despair. And then the seasonal allergies kicked in a little.

And I’m white, living in another country, far far from the epicenter of emotion.

Business as usual, then.

But, why is this put right back on Black people. How about “right now cops need to be particularly careful not to be extra dickish.”

I’m hopeful that instead, the police will be very very conscious of being watched. On the other hand, I do expect a wave of “Blue Flu” to go around suddenly.

Depends, he is a cop after all, and cops put the aryan boys in the big house. The upside, he will have to suck up to them cause he knows he is on a hit list.

The other side, wonder how many incarcerated prisoners will have their trials reevaluated now its obvious Derek was reckless as a LEO. On the other other hand, have to wonder how many persons he has killed in the past due to precieved Qualified Immunity plus white.

This apoplectic hand wringing / pearl clutching by the Reich Wingers/Qnuts is all BS & sad pathetic drama, just as it always has been. These Nazi scum are always reaching for low baring fruit.

Justice is a never-ending process. It does not prevail; it either survives or it does not. Today, it survived, but the fight goes on.

Sorry, but bullshit. There have been Black defendants who have been denied appeal even when key witnesses have recanted, DNA evidence exonerates them, when it’s been shown their “confessions” have been coerced, or when there has been gross malfeasance on the part of prosecutors or cops. Some peripheral comment by a politician after the trial was almost over, that’s nowhere near grounds for a legit appeal.

On the part of the judge…

Assuming you mean a lot of cops calling in “sick,” um, good?

I’ve been reading about unprecedented numbers of police retiring early or resigning locally. Cool! They are defunding themselves!

Especially since that judge’s own instructions to the jury included media sequestration. If he suspected any threat that a juror would have even had a chance to hear Rep Waters’ comments, he should dismiss that juror for one of the alternates. Instead, after his weird precog adjudicating he… dismissed the alternates. But as there was no suspicion of a polluted jury, all he could possibly do was inject that doubt into the proceedings.

Dumbass.

haven’t we seen in the literal way - not even the figurative one - that they don’t really need any justification to shoot and kill. that’s the whole problem here in a nut shell

especially because, if it was, it would immediately be weaponized. i mean i guess we’re all inured to the endless racist hate mongering that is fox news, but if all anybody needs to do to nix a high profile case is make a public statement - we’ll never have justice again in this country

I’m tired of people deciding that black people speaking truth doesn’t “help the situation” every time one does it. Where were all these pearl clutching concern trollies when the president literally bragged about ordering the police to execute a member of antifa.

No where.

Stop telling black people when it is or isn’t okay to protest.
