That’s because, from very early on, he had an organised party of street thugs who had sworn fealty toward him alone (he was also coasting on real military cred, unlike a lot of American right-wingers). Over time, with the connivance of establishment conservatives and capitalists (that era’s German version of modern America’s GOP leadership and “free”-market fundies), that developed into his having actual soldiers and police carry weapons on his behalf so he still didn’t have to brandish one going forward. Such is a particular danger of that ideology.
The fuhrerprizip is one of the key and explicit characteristics that differentiates fascism from other forms of authoritarianism. In situations like Stalinism, the leaders often have to performatively demonstrate their ideological or nationalist cred as equals or comrade soldiers by waving weapons around in public well past the time they have to. In other cases, like Arafat’s, they’re incapable of making the leap from insurgent to statesman.
Note in the current situation how von Clownstick, blustering performance grifter though he is, doesn’t wave pistols about. As with Hitler, he can leave that to yahoo followers and enablers like Masters (along with the occasional stochastic terrorist or insurrectionist): the kind of insecure and scared little men who feel they have to carry firearms around day-to-day not because their jobs require them to but rather as masculinity totems and penis substitutes.

If this were a YouTube video from a content creator who reviews firearms and firearm accessories (there are plenty of such channels) this video would probably fit in there, although it probably wouldn’t do very well because it’s (a) boring AF and (b) doesn’t do much actual reviewing of the gun or the silencer other than some generic stuff about how cool it is.
As a political ad, it’s just absolute WTFery and its most WTF. Thank everything this guy lost.

It made me think that instead of finding an actual gun range, he used the silencer because he didn’t want any authorities showing up to ask what the hell he thought he was playing at.

Guys like this are cowards at heart. The last thing they want is to be confronted on their BS. Easier for them at that point to slink away to a place where they can avoid uncomfortable questions.
