What was in the safe

Good point. I forget how much of the document is dependent on case law.

On the contrary; I wouldn’t have been satisfied with any other conclusion.

Not to mention that the gun you’re using is almost as valuable as the contents of the safe.

It’s definitely more stylish than the fire safe we got.

Rob’s safe might even stop a burglar. Though I’ll let his Security Technician be the judge of that.

TBH I’m more concerned with fire and or water damage.

Weren’t you?

And you know from experience that no one’s going to bother trying to unlock it to steal what’s inside, because it takes ten months to open. :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree completely. I admit it is a trap that people tend to fall into, and I aware that I am no exception. My Dad is better at it than I am, although he is somewhat responsible for much of my material responsibility. One thing is photo albums. My Mom inherited photo albums from her mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Now I have those. They take up a good two meters of shelf space. I see myself as a caretaker, and that they belong to future family members. It may well be that some future family member will see no value in those photos, and discard them, or lose them from inattention or accident. It is likely to happen. I have made an effort to copy and distribute many of the best images, and there are hard drives and cds of thousands of images I have scanned.
But I am committed now, until I find someone else to pawn them off on.

Well, @beschizza got the safe open, we’re satisfied, even though there wasn’t anything in there. Maybe 2017 WILL end up being better than 2016 after all?

a 2017 as empty and uneventful as the safe…

one can dream.

I would go with the previously suggested idea of using it as a bar

Just the place to keep the emergency Bourbon.

It may or may not be fireproof and waterproof to modern standards, however.

I have a top-hinge (water in the basement being a much more common scenario here) FP/WP safe that weighs 90 pounds empty, filed with exactly that: official papers, photos, passports, things that aren’t worth stealing but would be bad for our family to lose. With all the paper it’s probably closer to 130-140 pounds at least. Moveable if we move, but not worth a burglar’s time. It’s not about locking up the family silver so it’s the right compromise for us, and probably most households.

As I mentioned in my post above, you want it to be waterproof too, so a hole on the bottom is not the right choice.
