Whatcha Watchin’ (Season 3)

I’m going to assume that the “no, I was pretty” response was a shout-out to the nonsense that SNL women have never been good looking.

Yeah, I think that it might have been a response to that ridiculousness.

I don’t often say this, but…wow.

We are about four episodes into the Fallout series on prime. You know, honestly I like it so far. The character’s stories are interesting so far. I’ve only ever played 4 but it definitely “feels” like the game world. It balances the main things I thought would be hard to make work in live-action surprisingly well both visually and textually. Works as a visually stunning western too.

I had mixed feelings about it, because of experiences playing the game. I kept expecting different outcomes for some characters and had to mutter “based on” to myself multiple times. The western vibe worked, but too many of the relationship plot points were dysfunctional, to say the least…

so far this is the think I’ve been liking least about it for sure. That and I’m scared of the implications from the pornographic violence that generally permeates media, but I’m trying not to overthink that.

Wow in what way? Can’t tell if that mean “great, you need to watch it” or “oh boy, that was something and I’m glad I never have to see it again”.

Both. It is a devastating and raw portrayal of the cascading psychological trauma of stalking and rape as told by a person who lived through it. (The victim actually plays himself, bravely reliving his trauma onscreen).

I couldn’t watch it again, but I am very glad that I did watch it.

I loved that book!

Do we know if it’s a series or a film?
I can’t see the story fitting in a film…

I guess we’re lucky this is just a sequel.

If they manage to turn it into a trilogy, that bugger’s actually going to show up!

So do I.

AFAIK it is a series made in Colombia.

Probably it would be a mess like when they adapted The House of the Spirits.

Thanks.
I just popped over to Netflix.
It’s a series, trailer looks promising.
Don’t know how soon it’s arriving, have set a reminder.

Along with episodes of TNG it really is my happy place at the moment. :hugs:

I kept getting the feeling the characters have a dialogue option tree pop up that we can’t see and they keep failing speech checks. Definitely some poor decisions were made, it didn’t break the show for me and so much of it was so well done I’m sure they’ll make another season.

Looks good, but my only reservations are

  1. the author never wanted his stuff sold for films or tv. Since his death, his sons have been selling the rights and publishing unfinished works in violation of their dad’s wishes.

  2. Does Netflix ever finish what they start?

Hopefully it will turn more people onto the novel.

Oh, did not know that.

Well, Kafka never wanted his works published at all, and look what we would have missed out on, so I can’t blame the kids for cashing in and hopefully, like you say, it’ll reach a wider audience.

As for Netflix not finishing stuff, hopefully they’ll wrap this up in a season. I can’t see any need for sequels.
Fingers crossed, eh?

1 season? The decompressed way stories are told now means the 7 generations of that novel will take 3-4 seasons.

Good point.
Been 30+ years since I read it. I guess I forgot just how huge it was, how much it encompassed.

That is disappointing. I agree, the Ripley story must be sun drenched and light in between the existential dread of discovery. What’s the point, otherwise?
