How did It start

How It is going

China freezes credit for Argentina swap operation and Mr. Milei needs to urgently find money to pay the IMF. China has not activated the new swap credit, but neither does it intend to generate conflicts: no advance was requested for the swap installments already used nor were the inactive ones cancelled.

To make things worse

And after the afternoon protests

This is absurd. In 2016 a case was opened against this populist MP (among others) alleging that he took bribes from private business to influence his political decisions. Despite ongoing court process, he was reelected in both 2016 and 2020 elections. After the 2020 elections, following a request from the prosecution, the Parliament voted to remove his diplomatic immunity. In 2022 the trial ended with his acquittal, but prosecutors appealed that, and a month ago the appellate court sentenced him to over four years in prison. He refused to give up his mandate, and now the Parliament failed to reach the 60% majority required to remove him by impeachment.

So now it looks like we’ll have a serving MP who is also serving time in prison until the elections next year. He won’t be able to do any voting or other parliamentary work, and he won’t receive any pay, but still - technically a member of Parliament. It’s so stupid.

A spokesperson for Vladimir Putintold reporters on Friday that if the Biden administration and European leaders planned to seize Russian central bank assets believed to be in excess of $300bn (£236bn) that were frozen after Moscow launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, they should “realise that Russia will never leave those who do it alone”.

So… Canada should expect real-life versions of Monty Python’s cheese shop sketch.
