Regarding “thoughts and prayers” i would propose the following Monetary compensation:
For every Massshooting victim the Gun-lobby (split by manufacturers or the Manufacturer of the Gun) pays the Hospital bills, Funeral bill, a 100K fine AND atleast 5K per month for every person (permanently) physicaly or mentaly injured /disabled People.
I like to see how fast they change their lobbying and procedures towards safety, Backgroundchecks, licensing etc.
Although i think they would go to the 5th element solution with having ceilingmounted turrets and Ai-controlled detection systems cause “the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good robot with a gun”.
Sorry if i am to cynical on this …
Well, yes, and studies prove it. Law enforcement dehumanizing populations has direct consequences. When you don’t see a human being as a human being, it’s a lot easier to shoot them (or, rather, attempt to shoot them). The fact still remains - police fire off orders of magnitude more bullets in the general vicinity of a person than end up actually hitting a person, because shooting people is hard (even when you don’t see them as people).
What’s interesting is that courts had previously established that the police have no duty to actually help people. His real crime was to make a lie of conservative claims that “good guys” with guns stop “bad guys” with guns. Since that’s a central myth of their gun culture, he committed a fatal sin by not being a Hollywood action hero, charging into an unknown situation, dodging bullets and shooting guns out of miscreants’ hands.
No, just until it kills enough “important” people; you know, rich White male politicians.
I am honestly surprised there have been no other mass shootings at any political rallies, conferences or speeches since the 2011 attack on former rep Gabby Giffords.
Would the 2017 Congressional baseball shooting qualify? Whether yes or no, it’s a good thing there haven’t been more of those.
Jesus-fucking-Christ on a cracker, yes it counts; as there were four people who got wounded.
FUCK.
When there are so damn many mass shootings on a regular basis that we can’t even keep track, something is seriously wrong with our "society."
Don’t forget the fucking president dehumanizing entire populations and directly encouraging violence against them.
When you Google it and find out it’s the second shooting at a Walmart this week.
Hey now - they didn’t do nothing! The Republicans loosened restrictions on guns in response. That’s when I realized we were fucked by the current politics of the US, that even in the face of the most awful situation, the Republicans would still be so heartless as to try to make things worse in response.
I keep reading that officially it’s only a mass shooting when at least three people die, which doesn’t make sense to me. If someone shoots 30 people, but thanks to heroic life-saving medical care, only one or two (or none) die, it still seems like a mass shooting to me. But I guess they have to make the definition more restrictive, or people would realize how ubiquitous they are.
Which creates the mass shooters in the first place. (And also normalizes racism in law enforcement which allows them to abuse and murder populations with impunity.)
Edit: Pretty directly, too:
Fucking semantics and word games, then fucking useless “thoughts and prayers.”
I’m so sick and tired of this shit.
He knows what he’s doing.
Christ, what an asshole.
There’s a much shorter, harsher word for people like him.
And again they ignore the fact that multiple people in that Walmart were, in fact, carrying guns.
The United States is one of the most heavily armed societies in the history of the world. If gun ownership prevented mass shootings then we’d be at the bottom of the list instead of the big fat outlier towering over everyone else.
Almost as if simply carrying a firearm doesn’t automatically transform you into a Terminator. Just about anybody can pick up a gun and have some fun shooting at paper targets at a firing range. Shooting at a real human being in a crisis situation is a very different thing entirely.
Is he brain-damaged?
(Rhetorical sarcasm, not an actual query.)
This particular shooting (because we have to specify, there are so damn many) happened in Texas at a Walmart - I’ll eat somebody else’s hat, if a chunky percentage of those shoppers weren’t carrying firearms on their person, or at least had them in their vehicles.
And it still didn’t do any damn good.
Santorum?
