Unless there are any big upsets (Boebert could still lose on mail-in ballots), it looks like the Republicans will end up with 220 or 221 seats in the House. Only Huffpost (of all places) has called the House for the GOP at this point, but it sure does look like they will end up with a slight majority.

That’s all they need to effectively block anything from getting done for the next two years, but more radical ideas like trying to impeach Biden will likely go nowhere.

eta: The voters also passed the county measure that allows the Board of Supervisors to remove the Sheriff for cause.

If that’s how it ends up, then the difference is based on gerrymandering that courts ruled illegal but states ran elections with, anyway. 5 to 7 House districts. :frowning:

yup. it’s incredible to me that it’s possible to draw a map that fails to meet constitutional requirements, and they still got to use it for the election

crime really does pay

The latest batch of votes in Colorado’s 3rd District has cut Boebert’s lead in half, to just 543 votes.

was it 800 or something that was the recount threshold?

i hope they’re able to get through it all before the next term starts…

In Colorado, a recount is automatic if the margin is within 0.5%, so I think that we can count on that happening either way.

ETA: Wait, is that 0.5% with respect to all votes cast (which would be around 1,500) or with respect to the amount of votes that the winner received (which would be around 750)?

In Colorado, a mandatory recount is triggered when the margin of votes between the top two candidates is at or below 0.5% of the leading candidate’s vote total

I cannot overstate how important state legislatures are. We may have lost the House, but the state legislatures will affect people’s lives much more directly.

Truer words…

I have said repeatedly that Dems must get more serious about local races. This is a start in reversing gerrymandering and voter suppression, but only a start.

Donald McEachin had just won re-election in Virginia’s 4th congressional district.

The Washington Post reported that the Governor will choose the date for a special election to fill the vacant seat. There’s a Wikipedia page currently listing potential candidates.
