Do you think Trump understands that although Trudeau hung on to his job, he lost his majority? It’s a little like winning the electoral college but losing the popular vote, so the concept shouldn’t be completely unfamiliar.
Granted, Donnie has the mandate of heaven, but Trudeau did approve that Transmountain pipeline, so maybe the oil companies will extend the mandate to him too.

You may be giving him too much credit. I think he believes his “unmatched wisdom” bullshit, and having never been corrected, ever, in his entire life, has no reason to think he is wrong about that. As for not helping his case, I think this also just does not compute for him. He is always right because no one has ever told him otherwise (for fear of retaliation, but nonetheless…)
