Zelensky:
Holder calls out Barr:
Lawyers, Tweets and Money. (all day long reprise)
Doesn’t quite roll off the tongue like Warren Zevon’s but, close.
Oh for fucks sake!
This is one reason why the Impeachment Hearings need to be slowed down and expanded.
If you go small and Donnie doesn’t get thrown out of office by the Senate- he thinks there’s no limit on what he can do - duck and cover.
Zelensky’s not stupid- he still has to deal with Donnie after the Senate acts like traitors.
i’m of two minds about it.while i do think it couldn’t hurt to spend more time going over trump’s wildly unconstitutional and destructive behavior in office i have come to the conclusion that there is nothing that trump could do, even in a publicly and conclusively provable action or set of actions, which would cause enough republican senators to vote to convict him for it to matter. i’m not saying that the whole impeachment process has been a waste of time but primarily all we’re doing or seem to be doing is laying down the historical record for posterity to see what we as a nation had managed to do to ourselves. trump really could kill someone on 5th avenue and get away with it.
our only chance for making a difference in the near term is voting him out of office. i don’t know if impeachment can change the probability of that happening. past the immediate election, if he were to be re-elected, then our next hope would be to replace enough republican senators with democrats in 2020 and 2022 so that a conviction could be achieved. just listening to the republicans who surround me in texas i feel that the longer the impeachment process goes on the angrier they are getting with democrats.
i’m usually more optimistic than this but it is hard to remain optimistic when i hear someone sitting at the lunch counter at a convenience store telling his friends that “we need to make the democratic party declared a terrorist group and throw all them traitors in jail!” and hear his 5 or 6 friends nod and exclaim how right he is.
You slow the process and drip, drip drip each illegal action. You bring in Michael Cohen, Lev Parnas etc - all the women- the National Inquirer guy and go over all the things they testified to.
The Senate vote doesn’t matter as much then.
You don’t throw up your hands and say - whelp - guess we can’t do anything. Hell - even if you lose - you fight and make them pay a price and set the record straight for the future.
Everything they’ll complain about - they already are complaining about. And you arrest people and compel them to testify.
It’s tough, because we’re in weird uncharted territory here. We’re impeaching a President who openly admitted to his crimes, and the basic defense boils down to “well, maybe those shouldn’t be crimes.” But the country is so polarized that people are angry at Democrats for… the President openly committing crimes. So formalizing things might help Democrats, might help Trump. But not doing anything and letting him openly commit crimes without a formal response seems like the worst option.
Unfortunately, I think you are pining for the mythical “reachable, convertible” moderate republicans and racist democrats. The fault line at this point it deep and wide and, with a few exceptions, pretty much uncrossable. The ones who are capable of being horrified by Trump’s actions already left the party, and their numbers were depressingly small. The only real answer is to push voter turnout. We are the majority, and they know that so are prioritizing voter suppression, purging of rolls, closing polling places and misinformation campaigns. I am not saying impeachment is a waste of time, it is absolutely necessary, but it is not the end-all of the situation.
No - I’m for exacting a price and showing Dems you’ll actually stand for something.
Yup, this.
I love that helpful graphic.
Were they all hiding in Nebraska?
Wait, where is Norway?
