Distraction yes, but also, IOKIYR. As has been the case at least since Prez Clinton, even the most minor infraction by a Dem is a huuuge deal, while truly heinous Republican malfeasance (the many examples by Trump being only the most obvious examples) goes unpunished.
And entirely forgiven by most of the Republican base. What do they say to each other, anyway? Yeah, Trump is a criminal, probably a rapist, lies all the time, obviously compulsive and incompetent, and so on. But hey, he’s sticking it to those libs! Fighting back against their constant chipping away at our freedoms.

Almost a word-for-word quote from my good friend and fishing buddy. The only way I can remain his friend is because he is completely apathetic about politics and he really is a good person at heart. I think he threw in a little nugget about Trump giving voice to all the nasty things he would like to yell at establishment politicians, too.

The machinist I work with is a Trump voter. He’s fairly engaged with current events, but seldom strays out of the Fox News bubble. He listens to a lot of conservative talk radio. Trump’s corruption, sexual misconduct , and incompetence don’t register with him at all.
He doesn’t offer his opinions much, and since I have to get along with him, I generally don’t draw him out. On the few occasions when we have talked politics, his concerns have been gun rights (the state took his FID away when they discovered an undeclared, adolescent felony conviction), taxes, and immigration, all expressed with casual contempt for liberal do-gooders and misogyny directed towards HRC and Nancy Pelosi.
I want to say he’s a decent guy because, in some ways, he is. But there’s too much there that I have to overlook for me to actually like him. He talks about about retiring and moving to Florida; whenever I have to use the shop and find myself assaulted by Rush or Hannity or FSM knows what all, I really wish he’d just hurry up and go.
