Alternatives to "Resting Bitch Face"

Me learning that sarcasm doesn’t translate well in this medium & to keep my stoopid mouth shut.

Given that RBF is essentially “having a non-smiling expression when one’s face is not showing any emotions,” I’ve always thought of it as:
Neutral expression is neutral face, or
Seriously, look up the definition of ‘neutral expression’ you assholes face.

Is this some sort of can’t get there from here trick question meant to trip me up and appear more of a misogynist than I really am (I’m accepting that my junk makes me one by default).

You don’t know me.

Well maybe a little, but if I told you why I had bad credit the vitriol I’ve experienced thus far would pale by comparison. Oh wait, I can’t be on the receiving end can I - dammit.

Sarcasm “translates” just fine in this medium, if you do it well.

Um, no.

Okay, we’re done. Thanks for finally revealing where you’re coming from.

I take that back, you don’t know me, not even a little.

You say that you are trying to understand, but have you ever really taken time out of your day to reflect on walking in someone else’s shoes who is vastly different than you?

It is something I struggle with, I know I’ve been in situations where if I were any color other than white I would have spent some time in a jail cell or been harassed by police more. I still make comments or say something to women that they have every right to take offense to, but if I reflect on what stupidly slipped past the foot in my mouth and realize what it could mean I do my best to apologize profusely.

I mean, yes, but also I tend to look like I’m frowning a little bit even in “neutral” mode. My mouth just turns down a tiny bit even when I’m just relaxed. I think it’s neutral, but it actually doesn’t appear that way to someone who doesn’t know that’s … just my face.

You could have issued a warning or at least just provided a link.

I cannot unsee it.

There goes my feminist card. That shit is too much for me.

Ask the black woman who was put in a psych ward and had her BMW impounded for insisting she wasn’t poor how much money helps if you’re female and black. Money is nice and all, but being rich doesn’t change everything about how society threats you if you’re not a white male.

Can you not perceive the difference between “camel look” (that expression which says “I can cross deserts for days without food or water, if only I had the opposed thumb and you had the hoof we’d pretty soon have a status exchange”), and having a camel face?

@IronEdithKidd has my full permission can make her own mind up as to whether she wishes to explain the difference to you with the aid of a baseball bat.

God damn it, here we go again.

You’ve just said a white male paraplegic with chronic peripheral neuropathy, allodynia, and severe, worsening dementia is better off than Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, and every single other non-white person and non-male person in the world. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight. You are welcome to come with me and change that man’s diapers in about an hour, because that’s exactly what my privileged white male ass will be doing. Frankly I wouldn’t mind the help, since he outweighs me significantly.

Afterwards you can tell me again how the pain and suffering of white males is insignificant, because they aren’t ever subjected to being called hurtful names, and never get denied loans, and how their skin color and gender makes them unworthy of your respect or empathy but that’s totally not racist or sexist. Meanwhile Oprah suffers so! Her hardships are overwhelming; she feels guilty when she enjoys watermelons! Oh, the humanity! Let’s send her some sympathy cards!

I’m sure this sort of callous rhetoric it will make me want to go right out and do some nice things for minorities and women… you just keep repeating that meme until I “acknowledge the privilege” and I’m sure the world will be a better place for your efforts.

I’ve said all I have to say, because I’m too pissed off to discuss this any more. Instead I’m going to go make a difference - maybe not a difference that matters to the people here who despise all white males no matter how poor or suffering they may be, but a kindness that will matter in one human being’s life, at least. And you know what? If one of the black ladies in the Home needs my help I will help her too. I always do. I refuse to ignore other people’s suffering simply because of their skin color or gender. I’m sorry the anti-white-male crusaders here can’t see any value in this most basic of human decencies, and I’m sorry they are so blind to the individuality of the human experience, but I can’t seem to get them to consider how bigoted they sound to others, so I’m going to go do what is in the reach of my hand, and I shall do it with all my might while there is still the strength left in me.

And that is fantastic. But you are talking about what you yourself would do (which again is great!) not about society as a whole.

The white man doth protest too much, methinks.

No one here is saying (afaik) that being a white person and/or a man automatically makes one evil (let alone automatically racist and/or sexist). Just that they generally make life that much easier. And no one is saying that the advantages that being white and/or a man automatically provide in life generally outweigh other disadvantages one might also have.

There now, is that so hard to see?

You really shouldn’t keep flailing away at that straw man you’ve constructed. It’s a waste of energy that you could be putting into the other (clearly good) work you do in the real world.

The claims that those who point out male privilege despise all men, or that those who point out white privilege despise all white people, they’re so, so tired! Not to mention just plain wrong.

It’s almost enough to make me put on a Resting Tired and Bored Face.

I think you need to keep an eye on the greater context:

You’re pointing to a small handful of healthy, wealthy, famous, and influential people and comparing them to a disabled white guy. Definitely he’s got it worse. If you’re wealthy, famous, and influential and black/female you’re not going to have society hosing you down with dick pics when you’re online, being arrested for driving while black, or suffering the many indignities and crappy things others do. In the general case, assuming you’re a healthy adult, there are very real, very persistent, very crappy things that people who aren’t white and aren’t male suffer in their day to day experience. That’s not because white males inherently suck, but because both the status quo, and the ignorant boors who defend those problems suck. It’s not slagging on white males to say women and minorities get the shaft in a lot of ways in contemporary society, it’s just being honest about the way things are.
