Obviously, they were using ‘gentleman’ in the same way that BoingBoing does
Hatch is and always will be remembered as a rock of shit, nothing more, nothing less. Adios D-bag.
Just going to repeat what I wrote about Roger Ailes’s obituary.
Fossil?
“gentlemanly conservative rock”
I interpret that as “relatively less of a mad-dog when compared to some current mad-dog, and no more than a useless stony outcropping only useful for bashing peoples’ heads in.”
I was thinking kidney stone, but we are both in the same region.
Enemies of Nazi, fascist, racist loons should start referring to them as “fecal impactions”. That may cause them to open up a book for the first time in their lives.
[ETA: and @DukeTrout beat me to it, more or less, one cola-flavored soft drink coming up.]
(deleted).
Others beat me to it.
Two different things, so no need for the carbonated beverage.
Besides, “fossilized” is a great descriptor for Hatch.
It’s always worth remembering that the New York Times – and most other elite media – yearn for a nice, brutal fascist government. They have since the '30s.
How unfortunate it was about 70 years too late.
never met a fascist it didn’t adore.
That doesn’t even include how shitty he was with IP and copyright.

Awesome! Shows you can have it both ways–kind of like a Ford Ranchero or a Chevy El Camino: Is it a turd or is it a rock? Is it a rock or is it a turd?
But one question, though: Pronunciation. Is it “fee-ca-lith” or “fek-a-lith”? The former makes more sense, but the latter, as an insult, suggests that someone go bone a stone. Kinda handy, eh?
Just like Rancheros, El Caminos, and Fecaliths, I think two-fers are cool.
It’s the former.
That quote block from the obit almost sounds satirical, like, “He was a fine man; here is a list of unspeakably horrific things he did.” I guess he was very well-mannered while he went about his evil deeds.
In any event, good riddance.
