DC Metro provided private subway car for white supremacists at Sunday's rally

“Mostly harmless.”

Drawing away transport resources from an existential war effort in the process. With priorities like that it’s laughable that anyone thinks they could govern competently.

The nazis leadership prioritized the death camps over the war effort. Of course, the extermination effort could not have been as effective without the eager cooperation of IBM.

How I wish the nazis in DC could get to experience the first scene from the Twilight Zone movie…

Have you seen any other group get that type of white glove treatment? They closed a public facility to people with opposing views to allow Nazis a conflict free ride. If any other group is considered a likely flash point of violence the trains get cancelled.

Did they?

So yes.

It was more of a potluck for terrible people. I’ve read that less than 30 people showed up while there were thousands of counterprotesters.

Why not a group police escort… in a paddy wagon? Protective custody is a thing.

I sent WMATA (DC Metro’s organization) the following using their on-line customer service contact page:

Customer By Service Web (██████████) (08/03/2018 09:53 PM)

I cannot believe you are thinking of providing separate trains for the Nazis to protest in DC.

Let the Nazis hire buses like every other group does.

They sent me the following response:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for making Metro aware of your concerns,

Metro is preparing for a planned “Unite the Right” rally and counter-demonstrations on Sunday afternoon Aug 12th, near the White House, and is aware that many participants may be planning to take rail to the events. The transit agency is working closely with law enforcement to prepare security options that place the highest priority on protecting Metro passengers, employees, and public safety – giving special consideration to the security challenges posed by railcar space constraints. Metro Transit Police are working closely with DC Metropolitan Police, which is the lead law enforcement agency for the events, as well as Virginia State Police, Fairfax County Police, the U.S. Secret Service and others.

Metro is not preparing a “special train” for the private use of any group. As with any ridership-generating event (e.g. large sporting events, concerts, Fourth of July celebrations, and many First Amendment demonstrations), Metro will be prepared to add trains as needed to address crowding if necessary. Should platform crowding become a concern at any particular station, Metro Transit Police may temporarily restrict access for safety reasons, as they do routinely during large events.

For updates on Metro service, customers are encouraged to sign up for MetroAlerts at wmata.com/metroalerts.

Sincerely,

Office of Customer Relations

So I guess they did it for “platform crowding” though how 20 people can crowd a platform is beyond me.

Just saw this on the Onion:

If the GM said that no taxpayer funds would be used to give them special treatment, there’s a way for him to tell the truth in retrospect. Send the protestors a bill for the costs associated with that trip. Split what, a couple dozen ways, that can’t be all that expensive, can it?

WHOA! Where did you find that!

It’s always really uncomfortable when The Onion reports the truth, because they don’t have to give a shit about saying the quiet part too loud.

American citizens have the right to peaceful protest. White supremacists have the right to travel privately for their own safety. The President of the USA has the right to insight violence against the free press by denouncing them as the enemy of the people. I’m reminded of events in Europe in the 1930’s. And no, I’m not joking. This is real. And it’s happening now.

Drop them off in the countryside without their hobnail boots.
