Dems expected to take Georgia and the U.S. Senate

Some interesting progressive people are up for committee chairs - and some Dems to leave - like Feinstein.

That should be the Republican Party, but not since Reagan’s Presidency has any significant part of the GOP represented anything close to “principled opposition” to liberal progressivism.

The ideology of the John Birch Society and that of the current GOP seem indistinguishable today. It was not always so.

one thing i will say for manchin is that while he’s clearly not an ocasio-cortez he is to the left of lieberman and baucus, the banes of obmacare. even at its rightmost flank, the democratic party is more progressive than 12 years ago.

my money is on schumer, i;ve never heard him sound so progressive, even when he was first elected.

And he’s holding a Dem seat in West Virginia. As much as I don’t like him, that’s pretty rad.

Oh, I really really want to hear Lindsey have to react to that old tweet in light of recent events… well, as much as I ever really want to hear Lindsey.

That goes both ways, though. Plenty of GOP senators in states with Dem governors.

this is also why it drove me nuts when people started suggesting democratic senators for cabinet positions from states with republican governors.

Unfortunately, that is more a state issue than a federal, although passing a new Voting Rights Act would help tremendously. We need to maintain focus on the state houses, as the Repubs realized long ago. They control the redistricting and voter suppression laws, both of which need to be addressed.

But what if, with the party already fracturing into the Cult of MAGA vs. the “Let’s not throw out the democracy with the bathwater…” RINOS, there is no longer a consensus among Republicans that Mitch should still be the Majority Leader?

He loses his Senate Judiciary Committee Chair too.

Certainly possible. Of course I don’t think that any GOP replacement would be LESS of an asshole.

If they can’t pass Medicare for All after this, I don’t believe it will ever happen. If Biden doesn’t push for this to happen, they can count on people not showing up at the polls next election.
Why wouldn’t you want to have a cheaper healthcare that covers every single citizen is beyond me.

Election Recount Rules in Georgia

State law does not require an automatic recount of votes. However, based on Georgia H.B. 316 (2019), a candidate can request a recount if the margin is less than or equal to 0.5%. That request has to be made within two business days of the results being certified.

Other common situations where a recount may be requested include:

  • If there is a suspected error or discrepancy in the returns, an election official can ask for a recount.
  • If a candidate for federal or state office petitions the Secretary of State regarding a suspected error or discrepancy, the Secretary of State can ask for a recount.

To me the first order of business is that Steven Breyer should retire, like the day after the inauguration, so that Joe can replace him before the midterms.

Start with Covid, and THEN elections reform/voting rights. The public health issue is first. Otherwise, agree. No farting around, not even for 1 second.
