here, it’s not like ■■■■■ getting shot is going to make anyone like him more. this is still a man who wants to round up and deport all immigrants with brown skin, and who tried to overthrow the results of the last election. ( among many other horrors )
i can see people who already like him becoming more energized – unfortunately, violent so – where maybe previous to this some of that had been tailing off. but, i can’t see this winning him any new supporters. he’s still ■■■■■ after all.
I anticipate little more than a sympathy bump in any polling. I don’t see any possible situation where someone would vote for him over Biden because of this.
I definitely see retaliation and Republicans are doing nothing right now to try to lower the temperature. If anything they are actively making things worse.
Scott Jennings was on CNN a little bit ago blaming Biden and the leftist boogeyman for rightly calling Trump an existential threat and a dictator in waiting. Funnily enough he hasn’t been seen since that rant. (Hopefully I never see him on my TV again.) Then you have several outspoken R’s blaming a grab bag of media, Biden, and the “radical left” for all of this.
I really shudder to think of what will happen at the RNC in a couple of days. I don’t expect any sort of measured response to any of this — if anything I expect it to be outrageous and dangerous.

I see more than a bump as possible. This event could inflame anew some Republicans who had become disillusioned with Tromp. I think some who saw him as a loser (and/or a rapist, felon, etc.) who they no longer wanted to bother with voting for will now get excited by his new martyrdom, and his fist-shaking, tough guy pose.
I wasn’t talking about those who were already going to vote. A lot of people don’t bother to vote when they get disillusioned with their side’s candidate (and don’t like the other side’s either).

Is it possible he deleted his accounts as part of getting his affairs in order? I mean, of course it’s possible. But would that have actually erased his presence?
The FBI has identified the shooting suspect at the rally of Don the convicted as Thomas Mathew Crooks age 20.
Two things stand out. The identity of the shooter will make it a lot harder for the MAGA Republicans to use their usual racist dog whistles. He was a “Real American”.
And also, Dems caused it because some of them have mildly pointed out that Tromp might be kinda sorta a threat to democracy when you stop and think about it, so that violent, actually fascist rhetoric is what led this sad young man to commit such a horrific, Democrat-obeying act. You see.
