I fear, with no evidence, mind you, that the term âfamily annihilatorâ is going to come up again. We are so so broken.
I donât think this is the neoliberal paradise we were promised.
Germaine is driving six days a week, for four to six hours a day, in addition to working other part-time jobs including managing her Etsy store and translation services. She typically earns around $300 a week â down from between $500 and $600 a week â from ridesharing, as she tries not to drive over 100 miles a day to prevent further wear and tear on her car, which she owns.
gig economy, baby.
late stage capitalism where people are the commodity and their value fluctuates with the market.

The mock front page featured fake quotes from school officials, accusations of Israeli war crimes, and a fake ad for Birthright Israel â the travel abroad program that sends young American Jews to Israel â with the tagline âOne manâs home is another manâs former home!â Overnight, someone had pinned the mock papers on bulletin boards, spread them on desks in lecture halls, and even wrapped the false front pages around roughly 300 copies of the Daily Northwestern itself.
The stunt quickly sparked a furor among Israelâs supporters online. One writer, at the conservative National Review, said the fake newspaper included an antisemitic âblood libel.â The university itself said the spoof âincluded images and language about Israel that many in our community found offensive.â
The parent company of the school paper, Students Publishing Company, or SPC, announced that it had âengaged law enforcement to investigate and find those responsible.â The results of the inquiry are just now coming to light.
Following the investigation, local prosecutors brought charges against two students for theft of advertising services. The little-known statute appears to only exist in Illinois and California, where it was originally passed to prevent the Ku Klux Klan from distributing recruitment materials in newspapers. The statute makes it illegal to insert an âunauthorized advertisement in a newspaper or periodical.â The students, both of whom are Black, now face up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine.
There it is again: Israel and Jewish people are supposedly the same thing. And so, if you criticize the actions of Israel or any Israelis, youâre an antisemite.

â People living in the isolated north of Gaza have told the BBC that children are going without food for days, as aid convoys are increasingly denied permits to enter. Some residents have resorted to grinding animal feed into flour to survive, but even stocks of those grains are now dwindling, they say.â
Food convoys should be given military escorts.

And the U.S. should have a lead role in protecting them and saying- we donât need no stinking permits.
Or more accurately âwith the whims of the VC tech-brosâ.
Pure speculation, but Iâm going to suspect that there were other factors at play here. This is not a ânormalâ parenting error.
