It’s the same compunction that drives Evil Villains to hire dumb-dumbs as henchmen and explain the Evil Plot to the Hero as he’s about to be put to death. In a manner that’s extreme and contrived instead of a simple bullet to the head. v It’s all ego stroking on the part of the Evil Villains.
hearing her blame herself for ever even taking the job was really hard, that she barely goes out, can’t even go the grocery store. that people tried to push their way into her grandmother’s home… that’s all real serious trauma. and just to feed some very powerful man’s ego
and then to think - despite all that - she and her family were still willing to come and testify
i hoped it helped her to be able to tell her story. nobody deserves to have to go through all that
Wait, are you quoting the plot of Austin Powers here? Because I think you are.
The reason it’s a tripe is because resembles reality?
Laying it on a bit thick. Lol
Hours before Arizona House Speaker Russell “Rusty” Bowers (R) testified about how he refused to help Donald Trump overturn the 2020 election results, he sat alone in his Capitol Hill hotel room, reading quotes about courage from John F. Kennedy and watching a church elder’s video about being a peacemaker.
Just surprised he didn’t wear a Xmas pageant halo for the event.
But while Bowers said the efforts by Giuliani and other Trump backers have been hurtful, he does not levy any criticism on Trump directly and would support him if he were on the ballot.
“If he is the nominee, if he was up against Biden, I’d vote for him again,” Bowers said. “Simply because what he did the first time, before COVID, was so good for the county. In my view it was great.”
So, in summary, he did the right thing under pressure, but is still an amazingly self-centered asshole. Makes me think the reason he did the right thing was not because it was the right thing, but because he could foresee this outcome in the offing and was not going to put himself at that kind of risk.
Pretty much how I summed it up yesterday.
All that flowery grandiose bullshit about his so called “faith” and ‘his sacred oath’; and all I heard was the sound of his own self preservation.
Here’s Robert Reich on this…
Exactly. This is a guy who says
And it is a tenet of my faith that the Constitution is divinely inspired
He understands neither the Constitution nor his own faith.
After reading that, now I need a hug.
Fuck.
Same.
Cross-posting from the HCR thread:
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.
Another ray of hope; the footage from the documentary that was being made at the WH in the last days of the last admin has been subpoenaed.
Bet you dude still gets to release his film afterward, and hopefully it reaches all the ‘on the fence people.’
Don’t shit on my need to keep hoping for the best and preparing for the worst, yo.
