Karen who can't believe she has to wear a mask to enter a supermarket confronts store manager

Sounds great, except disabled people are also more likely to be poor, can’t afford a good attorney to handle things, have to now take on a further risk by showing up in a courtroom full of these wacklefucks, can’t afford a fine if the judge doesn’t believe them either or wants to send a message, sure as fuck can’t afford an appeal, and – depending on where in the US they live – might then end up in a COVID-filled jail for failure to pay, and lose their voting rights.

Way to help out.

Good points, all.

So your solution then?

Well I don’t have one, but I bet you do, so feel free to share.

Did you fall down the Karen vs Becky rabbit hole yet?

I took one for the team and did the research.

I thought sure “plane” was going to be about chemtrails, but it’s actually scientific evidence for the flat Earth. So at least she knows that tiny bit of geometry (and one or perhaps two puns).

The Karen in my family is diligently wearing her mask in fear of catching the virus. It’s sad that someone’s name can become a pejorative.

“And thirdly, some of the navigators have been dipping into the melange stores in their off-time. Let me remind all of you that spice is primarily to be used for navigation through space, not tripping fish balls in public.”

Since you apparently have also, maybe you can answer this burning question: what’s the difference between a Karen and a Debra? (No, that’s not the start of a joke, I’m trying to figure it out. (OK, well, maybe someday it’ll be the start of a joke, but right now I’m not joking. (If I were joking, I’d say “Donald Trump failed today at saying something stupider than he said yesterday.” (It’s funny because in three years he’s never missed a day of out-stupiding his previous day.))))

Well, as Douglas Adams wrote, if she was to shut her mouth, her brain might start working.

Here’s how they handle an almost identical situation in Singapore:

The woman has been remanded at Singapore’s Institute of Mental Health.

It’s not up to @MalevolentPixy to fix what humanity has been fucking up for the last few hundred years. How about not silencing people by demanding they have the work of years of state and federation legislation at the ready as a ticket to participate in a conversation or be dismissed out of hand? No one person has the answer to these large scale problems and it’s deeply unfair to expect that from conversation on the internet. :woman_shrugging:

I think bigotry being displayed here isn’t necessarily about race, though it’s very likely rooted in white supremacy. I think the bigotry being displayed by this woman is about ‘others’, people perceived (by her) as lesser. They’re only grocery store serfs, after all. They’re disposable people and how very dare they, these people who are beneath her, try to enforce rules to keep all safe? <\s>.

I admittedly haven’t looked up a definition of bigotry lately, but I don’t think it only refers to race.

Since there are many people who have the actual name Karen, can we all stop using their name as a derogatory epithet? It’s kind of a racist thing, imho. Let’s just call her an entitled jerk. How would all of you like it if your name was virally used as a putdown?

If someone believes they are a victim, are they still a victim?

IIRC if you have sufficiently bad asthma, or some other lung issues, wearing a mask may be enough of a hindrance that it causes you trouble breathing. Of course, if you have such issues, you should be sequestering yourself away, not walking into stores without a mask or face shield or anything.

I believe - strongly - in individual rights, but your right to swing your fist ends at my chin. That mask protects me, not you.

These people would probably object too.

Though as she doesn’t have a point, she would need to find three more to have a plane.

I like the expression circuit breaker measures!

And how would she think using the American concept of sovereign citizenship would help her as a Singaporean? Isn’t that all based on mumbo jumbo about the US Constitution? Of course equivalent wackos exist in other countries (Freemen of the Land, Reichsbürger, …) but at least they tend to make up their own bullshit based on their country’s legal tradition.
