DS9 was always one big polycule anyway :wink: I still love that we only saw Garak ONCE in S1 (ep3 Past Prologue) and his impression on Bashir and us stuck that long.

As for who dated who first…that would still go to Garak with 2x05 “Cardassians”

But I was going off of “If Wishes were Horses” was late season 1 and the first real date that Bashir and O’Brien had was 2x13 “Armageddon Game” (I forgo season ones “The Storyteller” as the first date that didn’t work out right. It wasn’t til O’Brien was truly suffering in S2 that their relation flourished) I just think the plans to have Miles and Julian were set early on.

But in s2 O’Brien got plenty of suffering:
Shot by a misguided Trill (2x04 Facets)
Had to face more of his bigotry with Cardassians (2x05 Cardassians)
Infected with a bio-weapon (2x13 Armageddon Game)
Cloned (2x14 Whispers)
Put on trial on Cardassia for “weapons smuggling” (2x25 Tribunal)

I really was wondering how much Miles did get put thru the wringer so I compiled:

being confused and hurt by Thomas Riker (3x09 Defiant)
Getting hit on by the Cardassian Scientist (3x15)
Thrown around in time and dies (3x17 Visionary)

s4
has to disobey orders from his boyfriend and gets the silent treatment all the way home (4x04 Hippocratic Oath)
Spends 20 years in prison over night (4x19 Hard Time)

s5
Alien posses Keiko (5x05 The Assignment)
Plays a friendly game of Kotra with psycho murder drugged Garak (5x24 Empok Nor)

S6
goes undercover for SI (6x15 Honor Among Thieves)
Loses Molly, gets back Molly, loses Molly, gets back Molly Double Bonus O’Brien suffering! (6x24 Time’s Orphan)

s7
Almost gets an ulcer from Nog’s trading scheme (7x06 Treachery Faith and the Great River)
Gets the crap beat out of him by the local mob (7x11 Prodigal Daughter)
What ever did happen to him exactly by the security guard at the casino (7x15 Badda Bing Badda Bang)
Diving into Sloane’s head (best Julian Miles date) (7x23 Extreme Measures)

I did not, but everyone trapped there was suffering equally so it doesn’t pass the “O’Brien must suffer” rule to my understanding.
