Former ‘National Review’ Editor Calls for Supreme Court to Overturn Brown v. Board Next

it was interesting to read ( elsewhere) that the right to send your kids to private school is actually one of the many things that the court has protected under the fourteenth amendment.

if the gop actually did have self consistency, vouchers would now be illegal right along with abortion

“We have a big-tent party, and if we’re gonna be a big-tent party, we got to be a big-tent party,” Clyburn told reporters after an evening rally at an outdoor barbecue joint. “I don’t believe we ought to have a litmus test in the Democratic Party. I think we have to bring as many people into the party as we possibly can.”

Cuellar has the support of not only Clyburn but also House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the No. 2 House Democrat, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer. Their names and others were featured prominently on campaign literature that was handed out at the rally.

Assholes everywhere in this story.

We can win if we only abandon all the reasons winning is important!

If Jim Clyburn wants to sacrifice women’s reproductive rights just to make the Democratic Party more inclusive, then I want nothing to do with the Democratic Party.

By the way, this type of narrative is already making the rounds on various news shows. This is the second time today that I heard a man say that we should be able to come to some sort of compromise (“reach a middle ground”) with respect to abortion. What these men don’t understand is that we women should never have to compromise our body autonomy. Ever. :rage:

“Woman”, “Women”, and “Female” (cue gif) are not in it either. Could it be that the framers had a blind spot?

Exactly. What is the point of a political party with no litmus test, no set of defined, generally agreed upon principles and values, whose tent is so big it includes practically everyone?
With a Democratic Party like that, the D next to a candidate or officials name tells you nothing about what they stand for or if they will work with and support other Democrats. You’re functionally voting for an individual, and only that individual, at that point.

Well, yeah, that is exactly where we are. While they are at it, why not reinstate Dred Scott? (I do not believe that one was ever actually overturned, just seen to be invalidated by the 14th, which they are rapidly also invalidating) Anyone who is not a wealthy, cis, het, white, conservative male is in the cross-hairs right now. And we need to get that message across loud and clear, because that demographic is a small minority in this country, and only holds power out of momentum for the most part. Vote, get others to vote, talk about our shared beliefs and values, break people out of their bubbles. But most of all, vote. This battle is not over, it is only just heating up.

“Alito’s lip service in his draft opinion about returning these issues to the states and to the people is disingenuous,” explained Seidel. “The court could have decided a case like this at virtually any time, but waited until after it had completely gutted the Voting Rights Act in Shelby County (2013) and Brnovich (2020) and after it had upheld partisan gerrymandering in Rucho v. Common Cause (2019). Those decisions protect the power of the conservative white Christian who would otherwise be subsumed in a demographic tide that would keep them out of office for good.”

The separation of church and state has traditionally prevented Christian nationalism from reigning over the laws of the United States. But with far-right, activist judges, like Alito, Supreme Court rulings can begin and end with religion.

“Some will disagree because Alito phrases it as ‘morality,’ but that’s the point,” Seidel continued, “he’s forced to adopt euphemisms for imposing his conservative Christianity on us all.”

If you aren’t rallying behind reproductive freedom, you won’t rally around any other kind. You just enable fascists. Why the hell should I vote freedoms away?
