Texas Gov. Greg Abbott begins gruesome persecution of trans children and their parents

When I hear stories like yours I’m always torn between admiring the bravery of trans people who’ve struggled and survived and feeling like you, and others, shouldn’t have to go through what you did.

I’m sorry, please allow me to step back and rephrase that. I’m not torn at all. You, and others, shouldn’t have to go through what you did. Period.

hell, i live in texas and see his political ads with increasing frequency and i spelled his name wrong. what’s amazing is how even the texas g.o.p. death cult has changed in the past four years. at that time, the republican speaker of the house refused to move the “bathroom” bill for a vote on the floor because he didn’t want to risk even one extra suicide while now they seem to relish in the thought of abusing trans people from childhood up.

if my health were better i’d stand up to run for the state legislature myself, of the few people who know the name of our state representative that i’ve met, almost all of them detest him. i think the main reason he gets re-elected is inertia. of course, if i ran with a “d” after my name it would be held against me so inertia is strong in this state.

Matthew Deperno, who has Trump’s endorsement, said: “Listen, all these cases that deal— Griswold , Roe v. Wade , Dobbs — these are all state right issues. I think that’s what we’re gonna see with the US Supreme Court. They’re gonna come down on the side that these liberty issues—number one, the wide expanse that was given on Roe v. Wade and this litany—are unworkable. The Supreme Court has to deal with that, has to decide, mark my words, that the privacy issue currently is unworkable. It’s going to be a state right issue on all of these things—as it should be!”

We must end liberty in our time!! They really are about saying the quiet part loud and proud now, aren’t they?

If it was possible to determine gender identity in the womb, how quickly would the anti-abortionists begin amending their stance with…certain caveats?

Yes.

Take it from a Texan: Greg Abbott is motivated almost entirely by cruelty. He doesn’t get behind any causes unless he can use them to make other people suffer and die. He delights in performative cruelty and sadism, and the sad thing is there are about 50-70 million Republicans who want the same cruel, awful, uncivilized things he does.

You’re being overly generous. The Dems are fiddling, thus will never pass voting rights protection, and the GOP will soon be a permanent ruling class.

As soon as they sweep their first elections (watch Abbot win with 99% of the vote), I expect the progoms to begin

Signed with vigor. Damn, I feel for the kids down there. Given my day job, though, I also suspect that the pediatricians are in hell right now. Glad to not be there, but aware we are all in the same boat.

this is one among many reasons i call the modern g.o.p. the death-cult and have for several years now.

How long until the Texas legislature tries to make it a crime to leave the state for certain reasons

I was surprised they didn’t attempt that with their abortion ban.

Not to worry, they will just blame their child and force them to hew more closely to prescribed gender roles. And I am sure that when they do that it will involves lot of slurs relating to what they don’t want them to look/act like. You know, like Jesus would.

Will they need a federal law to compel other states to return the “fugitives,” or do existing statutes cover that?

You know what it won’t do? Hurt. Signed

I wouldn’t want the children to suffer because of the ignorance of their parents, I mean they’re already suffering because of them, I’m sure. It’s almost a given that those kids are heavily gender policed with punishment by verbal and physical abuse for stepping out of line of their assigned gender norms.

It now has a little over 4x the number of signatures since I signed it. Hopefully it picks up some steam.

Oh, crap. With for-profit prisons and a labor shortage, they’d really see that as a win.

If they can make just being yourself a crime they can extradite you if you did it in their state

Me neither, but a fair number of their spawn begin exhibiting the same signs of cruelty as their parents at an early age… Not that that is their fault, but they pretty quickly replicate their parents bigotry, which has an impact on their peers.
