My doc was a WoC. My actual OB’s partner. That might have been part of why it was a strong recommendation? I’d hope she was aware of the issue and didn’t treat me any differently than she would have a WoC.
She was a great doctor. Really took her time with the stitches to make sure there wouldn’t be any issues.
Once I realized the extent of racism in current medicine, I began to request women and POC doctors whenever possible.
Yeah, I prefer women and POC in my own health care, too… My primary is a woman of color, and many of the specialists I’ve seen tend to be either POC or women…
I am white, but had nearly the same experience because I hit 9 cm at about 5 pm in spite of having a midwife. Worse, the attending physician was a woman. I basically yelled at her that I didn’t choose a midwife to have an impatient MD decide my fate because they were going to be late for their tee time or whatever.
My midwife stayed to the end, a woman of color, and a true champion for women giving birth as naturally as mom can manage.
Which is much more likely to come into play when the patient is viewed as “unlikely to comprehend what her options really are, and must be told what to do.” I have seen this attitude in the wild. It sucks.
Wise move.

Interestingly, white male physicians routinely score lowest on scores like patient survival and satisfaction. Weird that, eh?
Pro-life my ass.
Also, you dipshits will ultimately get fewer of those ever so precious white babies by requiring the state to murder their potential mamas. Killing not-white women is obviously the goal here, though, so expect very selective enforcement if the assholes get their murder law.

(The book in question was the graphic novel adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale).
Yay for sanity and respect for law and science, but damn, it hurts that this is even necessary!
Because it’s never about protecting babies, it’s about punishing and controlling women. Period.
Fred Clark re-posted a compilation of his research into how abortion became a rallying cry for Evangelicals and other Christian Nationalists (it’s ‘younger than the Happy Meal’):
I suppose it is a statement about the current SCOTUS that I was surprised by this good news. Was unanimous too
Colorado’s Richard Holtorf is confident that he is one whom the law protects but does not bind.
Ol’ Wilhoit is really getting a workout here lately. Idiots…
