This so odd and confusing. Tournaments are generally scheduled months in advance and the brackets/start times are typically published so teams (and media) can plan accordingly. I wonder why the school’s basketball team didn’t reach out to the tournament officials when they first were invited and tell the organizers about the possible conflict?
To wait until the 11th hour is unfair to the other participants although it seems that the other teams seemed amenable to postponing the game.
It might have been an elimination tournament. In which case the team would know what their first game time was and even the times for subsequent games but not if they would play in those games. It would depend on how they advance through the brackets.
That being said- why not notify in advance that if the team advances, they will not be able to play X time slots if they advanced?
Yes, we should definitely sit around waiting for more information before we come to any conclusions as to whether we should think Putin is a liar or not. That’s definitely not a thing that an active traitor to democracy and the international order would say.
I think wiki is restricted, isn’t it? I know the when I became a Regular the message says something about wiki privileges or similar
ETA: Honestly, I don’t even know how to get to the wiki or any docs about it
In the meantime though:
EATA: I would say that it’s use on the bbs is usually as a disparaging way of referring to a member of an oppressed class that carries water for their oppressor. (Does that sound about right?)
Yes, the teams are not known but the possible start times are. It was the state semifinals. That schedule is firm and all of the participating teams know ahead of time all of the possible state tournament play times. Yes, they may not have expected to make the semifinals, but clearly they entered the tournament hoping to win. What did they think would happen if they did win?
The coaching staff either knew that if they won their games they could possibly be playing during the Sabbath, or they didn’t look at the tournament schedule. My guess is that the coach was inexperienced and didn’t bother to think about this until their players brought it to their attention.
The biggest takeaway is that other schools were willing to help them out, and I find that uplifting.
