Trump cancels campaign events: is he sick or is he sad?

The only Clinton commercial I’ve seen is soundbites from former Bush administration officials (Michael Hayden for one) and right-wing pundits (i.e. Krauthammer) saying they don’t trust Trump to hold the launch codes.

While this may be effective at peeling off disaffected conservatives, it shows that she’s triangulating rightwards as always, and still doesn’t give a shit about the left even after facing a serious primary challenge from that direction.

As if Trump would want any part of a society that expected all their leaders to have some record of military service.

That’s one way to look at it. It may also be that there’s no point in her wooing progressives, because there are almost no further gains to be had there, at least not that can swing anything that needs to be swung. Disaffected Republicans, on the other hand, represent a large pool of voters that can turn a squeaker into a landslide, analogous to the “Reagan Democrats” of the 80s. They might also be able to help the Democrats take control of the Senate.

Just to add to your point, he’s an overweight 70-year old man who eats lots of fast food. That’s not a good combo.

My dad is 76 and he said he wouldn’t trust voting for anyone his age.

That’s an insult to Romulans.[quote=“heckblazer, post:46, topic:83948, full:true”]

Sure it is! It’s the best combo, absolutely fantastic; highly likely to result in a debilataing stroke or heart attack, and that would be tremendous for America.

And no, that was not sarcasm.

also, what’s with the specifically white - not red - hats?

There’s been a ton of reports out of his campaign, and he even directly references it in his appearances, of Trumps obsession with winning the states, and changing the maps, all the best maps, Oh we have states, you’ll see. Apparently He’s been fairly insistent on campaigning in states he can’t win. His campaign is supposedly expending much needed resources focusing on places like California, Connecticut, and NY. At the expense of both likely swing states, and reliable red states. That misfire is apparently part of why Georgia might come of up for grabs this year. He seems to be deluded enough to think he can upend the typical electoral map, and based on actual polling that could happen. Its just Hillary that making unexpected gains.

So I’m willing to bet these cancellations have to do with that. His new campaign manager is apparently something of a Trump Wisperer. So its possible they’ve finally convinced the guy to back off on some of that lost ground. The outlier is Nevada, where Trumps polling has been some what strong. And has been solidly in the purple as of a late. But its possible they’ve decided its a lost cause because of its Hispanic population. Otherwise the states being cancelled, Colorado and Oregon aren’t really likely GOP pickups based on past elections or current polling.

Which might be a problem for the guy. From what I hear his rallies are getting less packed. Where they’re still filled to capacity its apparently because they’ve been booking them at smaller, and smaller venues. And despite Trumps frequent insistence that “thousands” are waiting outside unable to enter, and the media refuses to show “the real crowd”. When media does check it out there are typically <100 outside any venue. Many of whom are protesters.

So the cancellations could also be a shift away from rallies as a substitute for an actual campaign. Or cancellation of specific events because they couldn’t fill them to capacity. For a guy who repeatedly points to his event attendance as proof that the polls have it wrong and his support is HUGE, beautiful support. Just all the support. You’re gonna love this support. The best, biggest support. Empty rooms and tiny venues look pretty bad.

Hey, I wasn’t answering the question of “where Trump came from” (sadly, the answer to that question is a lot closer to home than Romulus). I was answering the question “whatever illogical planet is the opposite of Vulcan.”

I can see no better answer to that question than the land of those who were once brothers to the Vulcans, who had the choice to embrace logic and harmony, but were so wrapped up in their own hatred and warmongering that they rejected logic and let their emotions guide them entirely.

… Okay, maybe that is a better answer to the Trump question than I thought.

I misread your comment, then.

No apology necessary. It’s awfully easy to misread comments on the Internet.

Provided he doesn’t win the election first. A Pence presidency would be very bad, maybe not Trump bad, but still not one I’d like to contemplate for long.

// Maybe the conspiracy theorists have been looking at it all wrong and this was actually the Tea Party’s conspiracy to get their candidate elected: by picking up the Republican nomination when Donald quits and winning over the massive chunk of voters relieved they don’t have to choose between Donald or Hillary.

He won’t. It’s a long time between now & November; months filled with nonstop stress on top of all his bad health habits and advancing age.

I’m just evil enough to hope he succumbs right in the middle of a press conference or a televised debate…

Fine with me, so long as his replacement doesn’t win

Trump has both a fundraiser and rally in Austin tonight and they are both still on.

And before anyone cries “Rally in Texas?”, the fundraiser was scheduled first. The rally was added for fun. Though it should be interesting, because a bunch of Austinites plan to crash it.
