The more I read about this “justification” the less sense any of this makes. I mean, this is all old news. Yet they wait until the shit is about to hit the fan to fire the guy? And it’s not like he’s now suddenly disqualified from testifying just because he was sacked.

This is all utterly baffling.

I think the reasoning boils down to: “I need someone who will go after Hillary and not me.”

So Hillary should prepare to become the USA’s highest-profile political prisoner.

He does seem intent on at least trying to fulfill his campaign promises. Or to seem like he’s trying.

I can’t like that; but I might send it to a friend who recently mortified me by going into a “Hilary is just as evil!” rant.

I want him to pull a lever and the floor drops out from under Comey dropping him into a tank of sharks.

COMEY FIRED! Dirty, corrupt things afoot. The truth will all come out. The unraveling continues… Hold the election over. Dirty. Corrupt.

I really wish Michael Moore didn’t talk exactly like Trump.

“While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgement of the…”

The fact he felt that even needed to be mentioned says so much. I can picture him writing that and stressing that part very loudly as he slyly looks at the American people out of the corner of his eye. Like a child writing a letter to Santa while his parents are nearby and making sure they hear what a good boy Santa surely must know he’s been all year.

that or his constant narcissism where everything always has to mention him.

I don’t know if it’s bad.

This is kind of like: you’ve recently felt queasy. you get tired at minor efforts. and, you have an odd pain in your shoulder. so you go to your doctor. [In this scenario, you have one-- Trump hasnt taken it away yet.] And he diagnoses you with a major heart condition. Isn’t it better to know you are gravely ill and at risk than to have been walking around ignorant?

Firing his FBI director is a Nixon-level action. This is something that will peel away all but the most partisan Republicans from Trump. This is the beginning.

Also: this is a clear path to Impeachment. Firing an FBI Director for doing his job is clearly obstruction of justice, if Trump did it because he was afraid of being investigated, even if they later decline to prosecute for what they were originally investigating. This is the “coverup” stage of the Watergate cycle.

I just can’t believe no one in Trump’s inner circle didn’t stop him from this action. Where were Ivanka and Jared? (Of course, Pence wouldn’t stop him: he’s salivating for the Oval Office now.)

One thing I’m looking forward to: what will the hive mind do now? What will Joe “MAGA Hat” Plumber in the street do? What will Fox & Friends do? They will have to support the firing. But-- he’s [ostensibly] being fired for going after Hillary. But-- they’re supposed to hate Hillary. But--   This is a Norman, Coordinate moment:

Trump is a little tweeting bird chirping in meadow.
Trump is a wreath of pretty flowers which smell bad.

However, if you check out Trump’s twitter feed, he’s retweeting Drudge’s lambasting Comey. So apparently the hive mind’s thought-for-the-day is going to be: Comey is bad (and sick). Comey has always been bad (and sick). The whole “We’re at war with Eastasia / We’ve always been at war with Eastasia” line from 1984.

Due to a typo, indictment delivered to HRH Queen Elizabeth II/I. The (propped-up corpse of Lyndon LaRouche)'s nipples explode with delight!

Trump tweeted and bloviated at his rallies all the time about Hillary’s alleged wrongdoing.

Now, he’s firing Comey for doing things that promoted his spin on the email affair?

Is Trump now going to do (another) 180 and be publicly proclaiming Hillary’s complete innocence from now on?

“Cryin’ Chuck Schumer stated recently, ‘I do not have confidence in him (James Comey) any longer.’ Then acts so indignant,” Trump tweeted on Tuesday night. Republican Senator John Cornyn echoed the president in his own tweet: “Ds were against Comey before they were for him.” The proper answer to this is: “Fuck you.”

The folks at Lawfare in their Emergency Podcast System add another nuance which is that if Trump were the subject of an investigation then this would be obstruction. They theorize that Trump is highlighting the fact that he’s not the target to make the point that this isn’t obstruction.

For Whitewater, right? It wouldn’t surprise me. These people have small minds and long memories.

You are more optimistic than I. Currently the most partisan Republicans seem to be. . . pretty much all of them.

I’m with you.

First things first. Take down Trump, then work on Pence.
