Whether a person is found guilty of a crime by a jury could mean that, as a matter of objective reality, the person committed the crime. But not necessarily. Just because an accusation didn’t result in a criminal conviction doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.
I like Roy’s chances with an Alabama jury of his peers, regardless of his guilt.
my my, what anodyne language.
Republican news outlets downplaying the seriousness of a charge against someone on their team?
Fetch the smelling salts!
The Christian ideal of redemption and forgiveness, “go and sin no more”, can be good, but once a pious fraud, always a pious fraud.
In Judge Moore’s defense the 10 Commandments don’t include fondling teen girls.
This guy was Steve Bannon’s high profile endorsement.
Steve Bannon- endorsing a pedo and convicted inmate No. 83479-053 formerly residing at McKean Federal Correctional Institute in Pennsylvania- Michael Grimm.
Keep up the great work Stevie.
It goes without saying that he’s funded by the Mercer’s - who also funded Milo the pedo apologist.
From the evangelical point of view, Democrats are those people who kill babies.
The sad fact is they’ll tolerate quite a lot from Roy Moore before they’ll vote against him.
More than you’ll have pal.
No… really? They didn’t know that there might be something wrong with a middle aged guy who attends political gatherings dressed up in an adult version of a cheap kids cowboy outfit from the 50’s but with that tin/plastic pop cap gun that came with it switched out for a real revolver?
[Moore] said the decision of the federal judge is “absolutely ridiculous” and a “perfect example of the outlandish doctrine of judicial supremacy whereby judges exalt themselves over the Constitution they are sworn to uphold.”
Yeah, those kind of judges should be kicked off the bench!

Sen. Lisa Murkowski said, “I’m horrified and if this is true he needs to step down immediately.” She also said she has spoken to Luther Strange about becoming a write-in challenge, ultimately challenging Moore in the Dec. 12 election.
That would be strange.
Well, she did win her own write in campaign, so there is precedent. The ads would be weird.
“If you don’t want the strange man representing us in Alabama, write in a vote for Luther Strange!”
You understand that this guy is up for election next month. There is no way a judicial process can be resolved in that time, or even a thorough law enforcement investigation of accusations of things that occurred decades ago. We have to go on the level of information that is available NOW. And if you read the WaPo article, it’s thorough and pretty damning.
Also, once he’s in the Senate, do you really think Moore will get any kind of trial, assuming his accuser even pursues charges against him? Are you that naive?
“Innocent until proven guilty” just means we can’t throw him in jail without a trial. It doesn’t mean that the GOP should continue to stand by him despite multiple credible claims of sexual assault against minors.
I was going to say that Biblical marriage means the union of one king of Israel with as many hundreds of wives and concubines as he can afford to keep…
Like mentioned above, innocent until proven guilty is usually understood to be the criminal burden of proof for the government to take away your liberty by jailing you or otherwise punishing you. It requires the unanimous decision of a jury of 12 citizens.
In a civil case, responsibility is proven by a preponderance of evidence. In actual society, neither of these are/should be the standard.
Here we have 5 named witness accounts, with further corroborating statements from others; reported by publications that take investigating sources seriously. Is this going to court? No. Should we believe he did these things? Yes, we should.
Yeah,
Geez. No.
How would we function in the world, if we could only make personal judgements based on the outcome of criminal cases?
And fully cooborated testimony of 5 witnesses by the Washington Post is not a specious accusation by a tabloid.
If 5 unrelated witnesses felt comfortable going on record to the Post ; I’d consider myself lucky that the statute of limitations for criminal justice had passed.
Boy howdy, the quotes that Daniel Dale is picking up from the Alabama GOP just keep snowballing in awfulness…
(He’s keeping them together in a thread. I won’t say it’s worth reading, but it sure as hell is illuminating.)
Yeah, this story in TPM really gets to the meat of things, yeesh.
“There is nothing to see here,” [Alabama State Auditor Jim Zeigler] said. “The allegations are that a man in his early 30s dated teenage girls. Even the Washington Post report says that he never had sexual intercourse with any of the girls and never attempted sexual intercourse.”
God, Alabama, you make all those “caricatures” seem true!
