I just gotta say, whenever I temporarily lose control of my eating it ends up with a tale of 60+ pancakes, or winning a taco eating contest. You guys are doing OK!
As God is my witness, I will never eat another pancake again. Also, “all you can drink” soda pop? I’m done, I drank all I can sometime around 1980.
I still like tacos, though, so I’m OK if Clinton wins the election.

Although we could probably push for a longer period, this will probably be a lot quicker than I’d expected. If our landlord can’t sell the house quickly, it could be auctioned off by the bank and they’d probably lose a lot of money. It kind of sucks for him - he’s pushing 60 now and I guess the bank doesn’t consider him to be worth the risk of another 10 year mortgage. It’s a shame - they’re a great family and he and his dad built the house for his sister, but she divorced and left and…

I live in the great American Midwest: AKA “Why does this house have a basement?”
So unless you’ve got an EPIC need to listen to all your podcasts in one car ride, I think I’ll gratefully decline the offer.
I’ve done a laminate job upstairs already and as much as I like it, laminate doesn’t like moisture. This basement will flood again. I’d rather put down tile. It’s not my house though, so if I do rip it up, I think all parties involved would probably rather prefer to leave the naked s…
schadenfreude’n calling - my dental hygienist left/quit & the only other hygienist at my dentists office that I’ve ever had the misfortune of meeting was like going three rounds with Mike Tyson.
I have an appointment Tuesday after next.
The preparation you have to ingest to prepare is MUCH better than it used to be, so there’s the “glass half full” for you!
It turns out that people of our age generally have pretty high standards (or depressingly low ones), and I am a bit challenged in some departments. Not completely lacking, but challenged.
I am not being facetious, I need a Yenta .
Well, that explains the apartment cop.
Ditto. I don’t want the sitter to not take the dog to the vet because he’s afraid of the cost.
We can hash out the money thing later if there’s some reason to, but the basic agreement is, “you take her to the vet when she needs it, I pay the bills.”
I’m truly sorry for your loss.
IT peeps really need to change their views about that especially desktop and server support… sadly too many libertarian bent sorts in the field.
He’s been on lactulose for the last few days and it seems to be working fine. Reading up on this online I’ve also heard of adding Metamucil or pumpkin to the animal’s diet. Danny’s not too picky about food so that would probably work. >sigh< I’ll be happier when he’s home but if his muscles were in worse shape than anticipated it sounds like surgery may have been a good call after all. Now he just has to get through the recovery.
So, so sorry for your loss. Do take care of yourself. All the best to you.
That’s really the key indicator here. It’s all about making his life better, not worse. If he can handle the surgery and thrive then it’s a no-brainer. If it comes down to not being worth the risk or if it won’t provide long term help, then it may be time to make some hard choices.
You sound like a wonderful animal parent, and while I know this is a totally cliche thing to hear, you will know what the right decisions are to make when you’re presented with the options.
I wish you and Danny the…

A few 25s
I delivered RatBoy the Younger mostly by myself in the waiting alcove at the ER at Kaiser. She was having full-on contractions, and they didn’t have a bed for her in the women’s center. The ER was busy and nobody was paying any attention to us. She went from contractions five minutes apart to crowning in the space of 25 minutes. The OB/GYN resident wandered in just as I was delivering RatBoy’s head. It got kind of busy after that.
I have just spent today with one branch of the family – racist, small-minded, Trump supporters – and then another – racist, small-minded, Trump supporters. And I had to leave our house guests, one of my oldest friends and his husband, behind at our house to do so.
At least I get to end the evening reading supportive loving posts from strangers on the internet whom I’ve come to value as friends to other strangers on the internet whom I’ve come to value as friends.

My step dad took a turn for the worst this weekend. He’s jaundiced and not really awake anymore. His mom and sister came down today to see him. My mom is distraught. It will probably be this week.
My congressman died today. Dammit, I liked my congressman. Mark was honest and smart and energetic and hard-working, and helped an old cynic like me retain my optimism about US politics. Fuck cancer.
I think part of the point of this thread is to help keep the bad stuff in perspective, and @Medievalist ’s post kind of did just that for me. My problems officially seem smaller and less concerning. I hope you’re taking care of yourself and your family @Medievalist . I never know what to say about these things except to say that it’s your time to grieve, don’t deny it to yourself to save face at work or with friends. You have my condolences.
My worries today, which now seem less vivid, are all a…
Thank you all so much for your support and comments. It makes a difference and I appreciate it more than I can say. I’ve spent the night going back and forth between Googling details on the problem, the surgery, the recovery, and spending time with Danny. He got a bath in preparation for the consult tomorrow–and that was soooo much fun. He hates baths, and grooming. He struggled so much in the sink he broke off a nail. Then came the Battle of the Comb. (Cornering him on the front porch helped.) …
I imagine her in hedgehog heaven, rolling happily over cars.
So sorry for your loss, feel hugged (ah, if you wish so).
I’m very sorry for your loss- she was a treasure, and I know I (and many, many other here) will miss her.
And a 50
This morning I checked on Her Highness and discovered she passed away in her sleep last night. I am still a bit numb from denial but feel the pain slowly sinking in. I’ve never really had a pet I was quite tthis attached to, today will be hard.
And might I suggest not doing thing in the Fuck ____ threads as now I’m just more pissed off at the world

Pro-tip; it might be a better idea to go to the profiles of some of the more prolific members here and check out their top responses; you’re a lot less likely to absorb any negative energy needlessly that way.
Plus, if you’re gonna accrue points that fast, then help a sister out and tally them up as you go, posting the sum at the end of your comment, please.

Do we get extra points on this for tipping over comments actually on this thread?
410 for the big post and another 10 for the following one

(Seems like lounge topics wouldn’t really be applicable since likes there don’t apply to badges and whatnot. Plus the whole “don’t talk about fight club” thing.)

Nope.
And I wasn’t aware that lounge posts don’t count; I could have sworn that I’ve gotten badges from lounge comments
Weird.
But if you’re looking for higher point bumps, I know that I personally have a few comments just shy of 25 and 50 likes.

Wait, maybe Godzilla is the size of me and those movies were actually about a tiny little Japan filled with tiny people and that’s the real tragedy here. It’s a commentary on how people of all sizes should be treated equally in culture.

While they call themselves gender critical, they take positions that seem gender essentialist.
I think we call that “Socialist.”
I do so as a complement. Others… not so much.
I don’t think you’ll find all that much agreement with this, as it relates to this story, or as a universal truth, around these parts.
That’s the crux of the matter, isn’t it? The show is very definitely depicting the objectification of women, but is it doing so to reinforce the sense of a grimly unjust and patriarchal world, or is it celebrating objectification as a desirable fantasy? i.e. is the viewer intended to feel comfortable or uncomfortable with the objectification?
It’s an impossible question to resolve, because it’s so damn subjective. One feminist can look at a nude scene and see male gaze pandering, where anot…
Oh, no see… us wimmins should just shut up, sit down, and hope that some man comes along and validating us by finding us attractive as they find these half-clad female superheroes… it’s a blessing when a guy ogles us, you see, because that is the only way we have value in this world… duh!

Basically what these guys are is a revival of mid 20th century fascism, but in our present time of crisis. I am not using fascist here as a term of abuse, but in the descriptive sense. They resurrect a lot of fascist ideas (anti-egalitarianism, racism, anti-liberalism/socialism/communism, anti-democracy, pro-capitalism, religiousity, reactionary traditionalism, etc.), but thanks to fascists starting the largest war in human history, this “Redpill Right” tends to be a bit more circumspect about u…

Well, to be fair, if they took over a mall like Black Lives, I’m sure the cops would at least ask them to leave. Politely, at a distance. You get a different response if you mess with almighty commerce (and a very different response if you’re not white, of course).
I think this lack of reaction is because there’s a real effort to avoid replicating Waco or Ruby Ridge, in the same way, I was reading, that the IRS is basically not enforcing tax codes to avoid repeating the fallout from over-exam…

Good to see the #notallwhitepeople task force has been alerted to this post.
For a simple 250. Now I need to get back to work.
I haven’t found a way to hunt out 9 / 24 / 49 point posts for a user … but if I had, I was looking to bump all of yours for reasons.
Damn you’re straight killin’ it, up in here.
